Hi All,

Ive been looking at a few K1's and im a bit confused.

My assumption is that all K1's have central exhaust BUT a few ive seen have exit on the left at rear.

Is this correct or are they not K1's?

Hope you can help

Thanks

Karl

Quite a few Leons has the BTCC / K1 style kit on and a different arrangement for the exhaust... exit in the centre, on the left and a round pipe either side.

There are people on here with more knowledge of the K1 than me though so they might be able to advise on other K1 specific things to look for when finding one.

Some "K1's" have little 1.6 engines too as well as different exhaust configurations. They will have either specc'd it that way from the dealer or done it themselves. Does it say whether it's a K1 on the V5??

I have seen quite a few FR's and 1.6's knocking about with the K1/BTCC kit's on but always check the V5. They only made them from what I understand from 58 to 59 plates (I am sure somebody will correct me if I am wrong).. Mine is a 09 plate and I have seen a few 58's kicking about as well.

A K1 is just a Cupra with a bodykit & centre exhaust & it doesn't state it on the V5 - as it's only a kit.

Other models (not the Cupra) it should be listed as the BTCC kit & they have the choice to what exhaust to have.... centre, left or one either side!

So you could find 07 / 57 Cupra's that have had the BTCC kit put on after....... I would class it as a K1 because there is no difference other than one was put on at the factory!

My insurance documents say otherwise.. Plus in the service handbook it also says "Leon Cupra TSI K1"

As mine is a leased car I don't have the V5 but some Insurance sites that pick up Reg numbers also can ID the car as mine comes up as Cupra K1

Either way K1's are only from 58 to 59 plates and all pre-facelift

Wrong you will never find a K1 with a 1.6 Engine! What you will find is a 1.6 with the Touring car body kit that doesnt make it a K1

K1 Only comes with 2.0 Cupra engine, A True K1 will have everything a Cupra has got plus the body kit , saying that it could just be a Cupra with the K1 Kit fitted after

There are alot of Sport 140 TDI's with the touring car kit on around aswell

The Sticker under the carpet in the boot will tell you if its a K1 or not, because the option codes listed should have the K1 Extras on it??

So you're telling me - if a 58 plate Cupra, gets the K1/BTCC kit fitted after..... it's not a K1 because it hasn't got the K1 code in the handbook... ?

It's an option, not a different model - so I doubt it'll be on the V5! So what you have to tell your insurance....... if I put the full kit on mine - I'll need to tell mine!?

It's a cupra, with a 1K bodykit..... (like what I did there)!?

The K1 shows up as a separate model dude ... We both know its a Cupra in a frock but all my documentation shows as Cupra K1 and it's specific.. If you have put a kit on yours then by law you are "supposed" to tell your insurance company but how many people do ;)

Parkers list's it as a separate model on there website as well (I know that don't make it gospel)

Either way it will show as a "K1" model when you check for insurance or service book like mine does.

K1 is a K1 , Cupra with the kit is not a K1

The same way that if you stick the Nurburgring kit on a VXR it doesnt make it a Nurburgring Edition, or if you paint your yellow fabia VRS blue it doesnt make it one of the Blue VRS Special Editions

K1's where built at the factory as K1's, i know the cupra is almost the same but its not

i think you need to understand what the K1 is.

Its a cupra but its wearing a different set of cheap looking bumpers imho of course and Al's :p
I also believe now that the inserts for the bumper have changed , so if you have an accident and the bumper needs changing the inserts i believe are now solid iirc.

V5 documents list a K1 as a cupra , insurance companies data base has the k1 listed as a k1 because of the extra bumpers.
There is no performance difference between the 2 cars standard or modified , although i think the bumpers cause drag on the k1 ;).
There are no interior differences , no other mechanical differences.

If i was in the market for a K1 i would save a little bit more a buy the face lift Cupra and add your own style and flair to it , maybe even add the cupra R rear bumper and zorsts ?

There is no doubt that the K1 in white is the best looking , especially with the white and black combo.

Would be interesting to know actually what the V5 shows up a Cupra R as?

I thought that the K1 left the factory as a Cupra and a box full of bits and that the kit was fitted by the dealer in the UK? I'm sure I read this was a reason why some the kits were fitted better than others.
