Is this right?

Hey folks,

I collected the car from our dealer after having the Aircon condenser and water pump replaced (thread elsewhere on this debacle)

I've not really been in the engine bay much but whilst checking the coolant level. I've noticed a couple of things. My car is a late 2018 290 GPF Cupra.

The first pic is regarding the area above the Turbo. I can't remember if there should be a heat shield above the Turbo area as there seems to be a lot of delicate wires above it.

The second is the brake fluid reservoir, the cap is super tight and the level is full, the fluid was changed during the last service so I'm hoping it's overspill.

Any help would be appreciated!

There are two heat shields in the vicinity of the turbo; one woven fabric one between the compressor and turbine sides of the turbo, and one metal plate above the turbine side - both present on your car and all looks to be present and correct when compared to my 2018 300 ps GPF ST.

The brake fluid looks like overspill. Check the level, clean up and observe in a week to see if any fluid is leaking.

You may also want to top up the coolant - the MQB cars are bad for airlocks and are quite difficult to fully bleed after maintenance. If it’s only a small amount from min to max on the expansion tank either neat coolant or distilled water will be ok to not alter the mix significantly.

Thanks for the info. I'm probably just getting paranoid due to the amount of work being done on a sub 30k mile car!

Rear brakes with fluid change
Aircon Condenser/Radiator
Thermostat Housing
Water Pump (separate jobs)
Touchscreen Replacement

I don't have much faith left in VW group! I also have the major service along with the DSG and diff service coming up!

These cars have the potential for Scotty Kilmer to call them money pit cars

Might be worth checking the 7 Spd DSG box interval. Fairly sure it’s 80,000 miles.

Also, for the diff service consider having it done at a VAG specialist that will remove/clean the strainer. Main dealers will replace the oil only. Have a look at the Haldex threads on here for more info (the FWD diff uses the same mechanicals as the 4WD Haldex).

Make sure you clean up that overspill asap; brake fluid is a pretty effective paint stripper:eek:

All clean now, it looks like it has been overfilled. I found an old syringe from my PC thermal paste system and now have the level right bang on max.

I started getting carried away then got the cleaning spray out and cleaned all the visible bit of the engine!
