Is this value for money???

I have been offered a second hand gearbox for my 1999 T reg 1.4s ibiza from a breakers for £340 + VAT, it has been used for 30000 miles. That sound cheap or not?

hmmmm, not too sure. I have read about people picking up boxes for the 16v gti for £50 to £100. So the 1.4 ones should be even cheaper really. But dont take my word for it

Sweet child of mine, 340 plus vat??? **** turpin wore a mask.
Tell them to go fcuk themselves, a 2.0 16v box can be picked up for less than 100 quid, dont be paying any more than 50-100 mate seriously.

Look at it this way the breakers will have got that car for free, they don't know anything about the condition of the gearbox other than the fact its done 30k but it could be clocked! You could probably buy a whole car with a reasonable gearbox for £400, Do not do it!

my mates just picked up a 5 speed Mk2 Golf GTi (1.8 8V) gear box for £50 from a scrappy near Oxford. Thats daylight robbery mate - borderlining on recon prices.

ebay or scrappers... check out sellers on ebay breaking cars. bought mine for 60 pounds for my 1.4... granted they cant guarantee it or anything, but 60 pounds fitting ontop and your still looking at less than a third of the price that they wanted, and thats fitted!!!!

i was going to say that, did they provide lube when they gave u that price!!
