ok after never owning a turbo before im new to this, on my cupra 1.8t, when i get to about 2200rmp the turbo kicks in, there harder you accelerate the loader the like whoosihing sounds. is this normal. ? i didnt think you would hear anything?

Mine makes hell of a whooshing sound as soon as the turbo kicks in , from what i've read on here i thought i had a boost leak and was just about to put it in a garage .
But now im confused as to whether i have one or not after reading this thread !!!!

yeah mines not super load it sounds good, but the boost seems fine so im thinking it just the turbo spinning up.

i cant really hear it when the windows are up but when down i can hear it clearly . I love the sound of it but i still dont think its right cos i've read in other posts that its more likely a boost leak
im not sure, i know you supposed to hear something. like you say with the windows up i bareley hear it. with them down its not really loud but nice. because surely with a boost leak theres a loss of power.
by any chance did you get your car from a garage in bristol , i seen one looks exactly like yours on autotrader and the forecourt looks the same to !
Mine's stock apart from a Forge 007 Diverter Valve (DV) and makes a progressive whistle/hiss from 2000 revs upwards, quite subtle and not what I would describe as a whoosh.
Do you know if you have any mods to the airbox, aftermarket panel filter (Green Cotton, K&N etc.), drilled lower section or Cold Air Intake (CAI) system fitted?
Any of these have a noticeable impact on the turbo and DV sounds I believe.
okay, i had a mobile tuning service come today to re tune my car back to the proper setting because cars lose power as they get older so he reset everything cleaned ports etc, and i asked him to check out the turbo because of the whistling. He told me that turbos arent supposed to make any noise but every turbo is diffrent., he said you will never find a turbo that doesnt make any noise because they are all set up diffrent inside. he also check all pipes and listning with a stephescope or something and said it all fine and normal. and all this for £40 is great.

It totally depends as to what your definition of 'woosh' is ?
It should sound like a gentle whistle , not like a leaking aircompressor.
Normally it should be hard to hear inside ,
It's best heard when driving through a tunnel or narrow streets.
