Hi,

As i can barely find any videos on YouTube or any information as it seems CUPRA folks are using these boxes less than our golf brethren i would be very happy if somone can give me some input on a JB4 box for a CUPRA 290ST.

A tune is about 800£
JB4 is about 450£ shipped and i can remove it and sell it whenever i want.
GOLF folks seem very happy with this box.

Can someone give me some guidance please?

Thank you.

Great piece of kit

A much better box than the popular dtuk box

I concur. I was running a JB1 & now have upgraded to a JB4. Love it. It's perfect for the car. Very user friendly, huge performance. Great technical support from George Smooth at Burgertuning for if you decide to add bolt on mods. Limiting boost by gear is a very handy feature. Makes launches much easier i.e. you don't want much extra in first really.

Get it, you will not regret it. Get the bluetooth connector & the app on your phone too.

Sounds good!
No IS38 Turbo issues? A lot of people crying around the internet and even some tuners not willing to tune the car with stock turbo anymore...

Is there a final word if JB4 is detectable or not by VW?
Should i get the Bluetooth and not the data cable? Am i really going to use it that often?

Thanks guys :)

No turbo issues

Nope. No turbo issues. George Shooth himself confirmed the wastegate control is perfecty capabel of preventing boost from shooting over.

I think I'd seat really looked hard enough they would notice something was a miss, the engines are very solid it's very rare for a problem to surface, I believe the turbo issue was an early 280 issue with a bad batch of turbos on the 280 and golf r

Any IS38 issues are irrelevant to the kind of tune. In fact they can even occur to stock cars. This was worse with some early IS38 batches and nowhere near as big as some "sources" may suggest. Thousands of IS38's around the world running stage 1/2 just fine for some years now and every big name in the scene (correct that: every single tuner) is still happy to tune these cars and even continue development even 4 years after their launch

Wait, you don't happen to come from/live in Sweden, do you? I ask because the only tuner I know of that circulates all that BS about stock IS38's breaking is from there and it's such a joke really.

Regarding the detectability, I believe there hasn't been a single case that warranty work has been denied due to claims of a JB4 being on, that's enough for most people I believe. Overall Jb4 is a great thing to start exploring the car's potential, offers so many useful features and lets you tailor it to your own preferences (if you have the know how and some help from George). I don't have the BT as I thought its price was rather steep but you can have the same functionality with the data cable and an app on the phone, you can keep the data cable tucked away when not using it.

I'm from Sweden ;)

I think i will go with the JB4 and data cable, another 120£ for the Bluetooth dongle seems really expensive as i won't be using it everyday.
I am starting to feel a bit of YOLO because i understand the car turns into a beast with the JB4 and due to it being easily removed warranty is no issue + resell value of the JB4 box.
I rather have that than an ECU flash where i can't control anything or get rid of it.

Thanks for the help. We can keep the JB4 discussion alive as many more will be interested with spring around the corner.

Just to add to the detect ability of these I agree we have not seen anything from Seat owners about issues but there have been some recent postings on the AUDI sites that suggest that they are now able to detect suspected tuning with tuning box.

To be more precise It's not recent, it's a 2 year old story that just started re-circulating a while ago. It's always the same screenshot with the ODIS number conveniently missing (so not trace-able) and no reports of people at dealerships having seen it yet, let alone owners getting warranty work denied because of that. You will of-course hear tuners swear that it's very much real and you're now busted etc. etc.

Can't you delete these flags with a pro OBD diagnostics tool?
Not the small Chinese dongle, talking about OBD BOSCH terminal.

If you do get flagged for something (like a remap) then no. People have been re-flashing to stock before visits to dealers but to my understanding that's not doing anything really, it's just that it's not immediately obvious you're tuned, not all dealers do a full diagnostic for every single work on your car so for minor stuff, when a dealer is not expected to dig deep then yeah it's not a bad idea.
If/When VW asks for the full diagnostic in order to approve (pay for) a costly repair under warranty and you have a flashed ECU (even if flashed back to stock), the TD1 will show up and it is directly communicated to VW, your dealer has no control over this. As some member in another forum put it: "Trying to reset the flash counter with flashing back to stock is like trying to reduce the mileage by driving backwards..."

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I am considering a tuning box and wanted to know the difference between the JB1 and JB4?
I did look at BMS UK site but not much info?
