Jetex filter cleaning

My jetex is starting to look a bit grubby. Couple of questions:

Is it just a case of removing and washing in soapy water?
Do i need to re-oil too?
If so which oil can i use?

Wash it with washing up liquid. Rinse it from the inside. Leave it to dry. When dry put it back on the car. Note do not oil the filter as it will kill the maf sensor.

Not true, over oiling causes MAF's to fail. Jetex filters come pre oiled, hence why i need to know if they need to be re-oiled

I also do not usually oil the filter, from what I've heard though, a very light coating of standard engine oil will usually suffice if you want to oil it.

I asked because it came pre oiled, and was wondering if it needed oiling again, please read the post properly! The thing about k+n filters is a myth, its all about people over oiling when they refit, as most have no clue as to how much to put on.

The general rule is foan/sponge filters require a small amount of a thin oil (pipercross for one supply it in a spray can with their kits) paper type filters such as AEM dont use oil at all, mesh filters like k&n say use oil but its when you over do it that causes probs

Did you buy your neuspeed new? If so can you remember if it came pre oiled?

I was running a jetex filter up until a month ago. The jetex when new was slightly geasey but nothing like k&n. The neuspeed filter was bought about 1 year ago and was second hand. I'm sure in the cleaning guild that came with my jetex it says nothing about oil.

Jetex filter does need to be re-oiled, i only wash re-oil mine every year, in between i just take it off and get the dyson to it in combination with a small paint brush(an arts and craft brush, v small) to loosen the debry.

Go easy on the oil BTW.

Ok mate, cheers for the info. What would happen if i didn't re-oil it? Would i get small dust particles going through the filter into the engine?

Yes but into your turbo, but to be honest i have never heard of this causing problems for anyone, use a small amount of oil as said, its just there to catch the smaller particals, you can sleep a bit easier at night doing it right too.

I asked the same re-oiling question a few weeks back and got no answer, but basically followed the same instructions in that link. However, I used a K&N recharge kit, which is constists of a spray cleaner (so no need to roll the filter in a tub) and fine oil spray, which is pretty much what comes in all the kits tbh. And according to the instructions, the oil is there to assisst in catching smaller particles, so probably worth putting it on, as much as we all want g/s, its probably more important to get good filtration first.

Light dusting of oil is all that is meant to be needed, and so far it doesnt seem to have affected my MAF yet - not sure if there would be codes or anything though - what would be symptons if you did get an oily MAF? But cheap and easy to do, even simpler for you open cone boys as I have a BMC, so just took about 3 more minutes to take off and apart... Cleaning kit lasts for a few cleans too, judging by the amount i have left (and I used a lot of cleaner and just enough oil).
