I think it's perfectrly in the topic. Topic should be renamed "worries about turbo and problem prevention" ;)

Is there a diagram how to connect catch can?

not a big problem, you have in + out pipe (the one that comes with the can are funny and not for use, i used hoses from another engine cooling installation)

find inside an engine space a place for it, mine is behind the engine, near the head bleeder. mounted it on frame with 2 screws, in hose from head bleeder, out hose to exhaust side of turbo

I will hopefully be installing mine in the next week, i'll post up a thread with a 'how to' as nobody has really done one on here. I'll give a list of parts as well as lots of pics

As Bare mentioned heads were a problem in the early cars, depending on which revision you have decides whether or not you have to worry. Take a look here

As for the original problem, definitely get the car to a garage and have them check what caused the limp mode and find out if the head and turbo are covered if either of them were to fail.

So reading this topic, the 2.0TDI 140ps engine is a dog?

My sub-40k 2006/55 2.0TDI Sport has the ghostly whooing sound as well, no smoking (blue or white). I am averaging 40mpg knocking about, engine temp sits at 90 degrees. If I boot it, there's no noticable soot and it doesn't go into limp mode.

Should I be looking out for anything in particualr? I have a Nissan warranty (that's who I bought the car from) that covers turbo failure. Should they be looking it before a catastrophe occurs?

That would be grand, been looking at doing this for a while.

well as we said before it's not that now all drivers should be scared of any clicking, wooing or other noise from engine space, but if something out of the ordinary comes along like some whistling sounds, poor power increase, limp mode then you should be worried.

i said that from my and friends experience this engine is not happily engineered and there is some problems with engine head, flywheel, turbo, etc

in any case, if something comes along the way you should contact and activate your warranty and not trust all the dealers when they say that something is normal:whistle:

this is all very useful information and much appreciated. the catch can looks like a worthy modification so thanks for sharing that, a write up would help if anyone is doing one soon.

the 2.0tdi bkd engine does seem to have turbo issues
just go to google and type '2.0tdi turbo problem' the results will be across the whole VAG range, skoda, audi, vw etc. have a cup of tea handy as its a long read.

i'm going to pop mine to the dealers for a check up and will report back any news
i suppose it goes to show that you need to give your car a good work out every now and then to keep things healthy :)
my golf PD130 doesnt do this at all, you get the usual turbo whistle when you start to give it some welly but quiet as a mouse when tootling around.

:)

Owl noise

I have a 2.0TDI DSG Toledo 56 plate with the owl noise, local dealership was very helpful and fitted a new turbo under warranty. This has not made any difference whatsoever- the owl is still whoo-hooing from around 1200 to 1500 rpm. Performance is still absolutely fine. just so annoying when tootling along in town or in traffic at low revs.

Just had a search for the owl/siren noise on the web. It certainly is a cause for concern over the wider VAG owning community, but yet may or may not be a worry. I'll give my local SEAT dealer a call and seek their advice. If a new turbo is needed, then the Nissan supplied warranty 'should' be applicable.

guys, don't be now all worried because of some wooing noise, this is a turbo, it suppose to make some sounds.

believe me, you'll now when something's wrong. when you drive a car with a siren sound turbo problem you will fill like the cops are chasing you, or when you try to overtake someone on highway and your car is suddenly dead and feels like you bought some city car with 2 cylinders. then you should worry.

just follow the simple rules how to drive a turbo car and you'll be fine. and if your lucky enough to have a car with upgraded parts then you will sleep like a baby.

for those who had bought a used car, like me, we have to hope that the previews owner was normal and that he was also careful with the car. in other case, without warranty we can expect 2k eur for turbo, 1k eur for the flywheel, 1k eur for engine head, and so on. (believe me,i've payed this parts)

also as you may know, no dealer will accept your warranty demand if your car has a remap, over here the dealer also will not take warranty if the service on the car where not made by him and so on.
