It's a random out of place thought/comment I know but I was replacing bulbs on the audi 1.8t the other day and just happened to remember about the plenum/intake manifold gasket from Bill that you have fitted and wondered could it really make that much of a difference or is there that much of a need for it.
So I put my hand to the intake manifold after a normal easy drive on the school run and was surprise by the amount of heat that it was giving off. Bacon, egg and soda in a bit of tin foil I thought to myself. I got my timing issue sorted so it is running at lower temperature than before.
