hi guys
ill try not to bore you to much but i bought my k1 7 weeks ago it runs like crap,my friend plugged it into his laptop and done a cylinder missfire test.on tick over for about 5 minutes it had 15 missfires on cylinder no3 and 3 missfires on cylinder no1,so i booked it into local seat dealer they basically confirmed the missfire then sent details to seat head tech the verdict was the car runs like that because of the cam duration hmmm,i was getting no where so decided to take the car to the seat dealer i brought it from '2 hours away' hopeing this would be the best option and they have done the same and came back with the same thing lumpy cams.my car on tick over shakes where u can feel the missfire happining and aparently everyone with a cupra or a k1 cupra do the same????? whats worse is that the place i bought it from are saying there is actuelly no missfire atall and the first dealership hasnt logged the so called missfire, ive gone through seat customer care tried to give the car back or exchange the car but there not interested and there saying nothing is wrong with the car when i no for a fact there is,can anyone shed some light on this do all your cars shake on tickover? go flat through the revs every now and then please help im pulling my hair out

ps no fault codes are coming up so there not willing to change anything on the car also here is some pictures of my 5000 mile 58 plate coil pack and head which is perfectly exeptable and they refuse to do anything about as the coilpack doesnt show a fault

imagine my horror when i saw a brand new coilpack in that state.......how does water get under the bonnet then under the engine cover then inbetween the vacum tight coilpack seal

Is your car brand new, or did you buy it as an ex-demo / second hand?

If you get no joy I would get Auto Express to follow the story up, and contact trading standards as (pending your car is completely unfettled and standard / unabused), that is not normal.

It took me threating legal action against a certain seat dealership to get them to sort out a low fuel pressure fault mate! Keep pressing and shout your mouth off as loud as you can everywhere you can inc the press like the guy above suggested....

PS: Is it modded?

hi the car was used, seat being the first owner with 5000miles when i got it 7 weeks ago,i havnt had the opertunity to do anything aftermarket to it apart from i changed the wheels, but the missfire was happening in the petrol station next to the dealership,i have to give the loan car back tomorow and pick mine up,ive asked them to do a missfire test infront of me but if it missfires there going to say its cams if it doesnt there tell me to go away so either way i lose on my 18,500 purchase

ive heard of a guy who had a similier problem the cars done under 3000miles and his heads been off 3 times by seat, there was a fault on the valve springs i beleive, and ive read somewhere else there has been injector faults with the cupra,s3,edition 30 none of which seat are interested about

also id like to add i said id collect the car go to an indapendant expert and get documentation to proove the faults.........seat are not interested and will not take any proof enless its from a seat main dealer :(

Can anyone explain the low milage, sometimes a year or so old, vehicles which become available that have been registered to Seat (not a dealer)?

Am interested because I bought one 14 months old with 750 miles on it in Feb 09, I could not get my head around it then and still can't  - no problems yet though.

hi mate mine isnt low mileage it was 4/5 months old so 5000 is average, but to me this is a brand new car
id like to add its classed as a used car when they talk to me like its old and been around since the alfa sud lol i would expect to see a car like this going strong well over 100,000 miles

It might have been an ex demo or press car that didn't get demo'd much! Its not a bad thing especially come resale time.

As for your experience with the dealers k1-dave, i've been in a similar position where they said a problem i had was one thing when i knew for certain it was something else. They said the the noise my loose turbo manifold bolts on my old car was actually the variable vane turbo spooling up. They either don't have a clue or don't want the hassle.

mmmmm interesting although the thought that Clarkson or a "star in a car" could have driven it terrifies me now :scary:

The £7K approx I saved on my 750 mile 14 month old pleased me immensely though

k1-dave, i think you should do as i did and threaten legal action! If they still don't budge follow it though! It sounds to me like you have grounds for a case! Pop down the cab for some free advice matey!

hi,

i had my car serviced on saturday at awesome gti where they change the plugs as a matter of routine. anyway, while the tech was busy i had a butchers over his shoulder and all 4 of my coil packs looked brand new (15k, 2 year old cupra).

id say you have cause for complaint.

thanks,im trying to keep my cool but its hard and im sick of master techs......jesus i wudnt trust these guys to service my nan let alone are car gone are the days of mechanics its all fitters now im speaking to my solicitor tomorow and im gona make sure this gets out there because the whole situation is messed up there making me out to be the fool and thats from service managers and head of the dealership

Totally sypathise with you mate. I've had my own problems and they only get resolved when you don't give in. Never make an idle threat, Always back it up with actions.

These peoples first reaction is to make it difficult for you in the hope that you go away. DON'T.

You are so obviously in the right that they can not win. Let everyone know what a bunch of c**ts they are.

Having given this one more thought, to me that looks like there is significant water ingress as I saw my 2.5 yr old coil packs the other week and they were mint.

I suggest as a short term measure you clean it up (with electrical contact cleaning spray from Maplins), then reinsert and run it for a few days. I'd be concerned to see how that much moisture/water can make it past the seal on the coil pack and cause that kind of fouling (I'm assuming its rust corrosion). I wouldn't like to speculate where that may be coming from.

Dave ,
The cupra /edition 30 and S3 all missfire if everyone here did logs of missfiring on tick over it would register faults mapped or standard , and if they dont get missifres then they are very lucky indeed.
I have had loads of problems , my car had a new cylinder head and it still missfires , on tickover vag com counted 38 on cylinder 3 and 5 on cylinder 1.

I went to AmD last week and they had a guy in with a K1 who had missfires on his K1 , was that you?.

Seat said my car was inside the engine specification for missfires , i was laughing at them , these engines should not missfire at all moving or on tick over, there is a fault somewhere but to my knowledge no one has actually pin pointed what causes it or if indeeed there is a fix.

Have a search on audisport.net and the golf forums , you will see loads of posts about it , but be carefull some are caused bythe fuel pump others by injectors , my fault is the same as yours no engine light , it just missfires.

Was thinking of getting a poll done off all the forums and see how many people are affected and writing a mass petition to vag , seat . audi for a response.

I solved a problem with my last car (astra) by sending the recommend a friend booklet back to the head office. I don't know how far you've gone with SEAT UK but keep pressing, keep telling people what the problem is.

I had to get my astra looked at 5 times for them to spot a seized brake calliper, then they forgot to order one and I had to take it back a 6th time.

master techs are highly skilled the tests they do are far more than a normal service tech. you may have had a bad experience but remember a fresh tomato is not always the right choice .
