Hey all. I know that there is info on this else where on the site but trying to get my confused brain to understand it all is making my head spin :confused:

Here's the deal. I have this key

and the unlock button is very intermittent sometimes it works, sometimes I have to push about 50 times to get it to work etc etc, so I want to change it for a new key.

I have been looking at this on the bay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Seat-flip-thr...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4cf4b81910

What else do I need to make this work with my car. I know I will have to get somebody, like Timpsons, to cut the actual key but where do I get the internal for the remote locking etc.

Cheers in advance :)

So is that the small PCB next to the battery?

What about the small tube piece, technical I know :), by the blade end of the key?

The tube is a transponder cased in glass lol.

I'm just wondering if the PCB in you're current key will fit a new flip key case... hmmm. Maybe someone can confirm this. I have only done the swap from flip key to flip key.

be very very careful with the transponder!
i was swaping from flip key to flip key last week and broke the transponder tube :( now the key is totally useless as this controls the immobiliser

seat dealer wants £123 all in to sort it!!!!! :censored:
they can't just replace the transponder tube, they replace the full top of the key, including a new blade getting cut which was £75 then £40+VAT for programming!

if i'd have know that i would've just got a full new flip key at the cost of £160 and kept the tatty looking one for a spare :(

with regards to the above question. don't see how it wouldn't work tbh but don't take that as gospel lol

the guy in the seat dealer asked where i bought my key from as i got mine off ebay (2 button one) and said that its designed so you can't just swap bits over, well on the bladed part anyway. i'd be very very wary trying to remove the transponder

Careful yes but they're not that difficult. I scratched mine out with a pin. New transponders are only about £7 but will need to be coded. Some have heated up the plastic with a lighter/thinners but I scratched the glue away.
All in all less than £50 total for new fob, blade, cutting and self programming of CL, transponder swap.

PS I doubt your PCB will fit from that two button to a 3 button case. However I'm not sure if you buy a full complete fob if it'll still be programmed to your car.
Have a search on the forum. There is a few big key/fob threads.

now that you've just mentioned that you can get the transponders on ebay, i've had a look

man thats saved me a few bob, £7 for a new transponder then its only £40+VAT for programming :D happy days

even better is i can get a complete key with PCB, transponder, blank blade and case for £40.

then its another £40+VAT for programming but i will have 2 flip keys instead of just one :)

Yeah transponder is £7ish off Ebay. I think the cheapest ones are from a seller called "Key_service" or something well he was when I last looked anyway.

You can use nail polish remover to get the transponder out.

We all know how to code a new key to the car because of the guides on here but what I want to know - is it the transponder you are coding to the car when following the guide or the PCB? In other words if I got a new transponder could I match it to the car myself?
