Have fitted the fans back to the car. Removing the centre support for the charge pipe means that it's not necessary to disconnect the steering hose, which is good.

With the A/C set to "Lo", both fans work on low speed. I tested the high speed with some jump leads before re-installing the unit.

I didn't manage to find anything with which to make a heatsink - I will keep an eye on the temperature of the parts after running the car for a short time, and then look to see if it's necessary to move the resistors or add a heatsink. With both fans running there's quite a lot of air movement behind the fan shroud so maybe it will help to keep the parts cool. At £12.38 for both resistors, it's not the end of the world if they fail. They can also be replaced in situ (just about) by tilting the fan pack backwards on the lower two bolts.

Will keep the post updated with how they fare.

Quick update, the fans are still working fine, but as mentioned the resistors do get hot.
So I have made a pair of heatsinks from 50mm x 50mm x 3mm aluminium angle.

Will see if that helps to keep the temperatures down. Hopefully they'll catch the airflow from the fans whilst they're running.
