Defected!
I'm about to install a subwoofer, it has to be shelf mounted because I sometimes need the boot space but what I'd really like to know is what's best. One large sub or two smaller ones and when I've decided how do I choose the best amplifier for the job??

for parcel shelf mount i'd say 2 smaller subs...the depth would also be shorter giving you more room.

but this type of mount won't bring out the best sound quality from the subs unless you were to make an enclosure also mounted under the parcel shelf...this is why you hardly see subs in parcel shelves...

hope that helps

why not install it so it can be removed when needed? ive two 12's in my LCR and can still do the shopping and pack for holiday

I wouldnt recommend subs on the parcel shelf. One 10 inch or 8 inch sub should be able to meet your needs, and just remove it when you need the exta space. A 8 inch sub will take up hardly any space.

Or make/buy a stealth box so you only lose a few inches to the nearside of your boot... a good compromise i've found.

I had a Stealth-Boxz in my old BMW and it sounded excellent. However, it cost £180 for the box alone!!:scary:

i don't understand why people think £180 is expensive for the stealthboxz...you must take into account the fact that they have moulded the box using fibreglass which is not only more expensive, but more time-consuming. If you were to get a custom box built then it will cost you more or less the same price including labour

if you want something for under £100 then buy a standard wedge box from any sound shop, but you compromise sub performance (if you have a decent sub)

Calm down sir, no one is questioning the workmanship that goes into designing and building a Stealthboxz. As I said before, I have owned one, it was fantastic but it is a question of priorities.

lol...i didn't mean to make it sound angry :D just wanted to justify as a while back there was quite a big thread about the stealthboxz

:D Sorry Mate, I was'nt implying anything. Stealthboxz' are top notch but when I say priorities I mean ICE is a bit further down the list than other mods. I just sometimes miss the system I had in my last car which puts the one in my LCR to shame. I'll just put up with it for the time being I think though rather than compromise and waste money on something I'm going to be dissapionted with. Had a quick look at your showthread by the way, nice looking motor!

I would'nt mount subs on a parcel shelf, Subs need pressure to work properly, you used to be able to get free air subs that were ment for shelf's but the ones I had had were'nt very good, Also if you have a 10" sub screwed to the shelf what would happen to to the shelf if you had an accident ???

i get ya mate, thats exactly why i'm happy running my single (good quality) 12" sub in a custom box on 500W than goin all out. Thanks for the message on my showthread by the way

d.k, tell us mate...what would happen???? :cartman:

Side mounted stealth box is the smart answer, it may cost today, but every day you go to fill up the boot it will offer max convenience for length of ownership, and it will be safer for the sub driver (esp. with 3 kids lobbing stuff in the boot). Plus you'll get a decent resale on it.

in my last wagon i had a vibe cbr 10" active box in the boot and a set of qb 6x9`s in the parcel shelf running through a black box 1 and the pair of of em together sounded awesome. thats what im intending to do on my lcr. Being only a 10" it didnt take up much space.
