Left hand drive blower resistor location

Hi folks, first time posting here but I've been lurking since I got my Altea about a year ago. Great community and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

About a year ago here in Spain I bought a 2005 Altea 1.9 (Left Hand Drive with Dual Climate Control) and I absolutely love the car. I've been driving VW's my whole life (spent mostly in Canada so no SEAT branding there) and this is reminiscent of a chunky MK5 Golf. Anyways pretty much since the time I bought it the right side vent would squeak a little, kind of like a loose bearing sound, but the squeaking would briefly subside when accelerating or making slight turns at speed, it didn't seem to matter what speed the fan was set to the squeaking was always there. Recently the blower stopped working altogether, I've watched all the youtube videos there are on the matter and it seems like they are all for RHD models. The supposedly easy to find resistor has been eluding me for days now. I've resorted to removing the glove box, all the underside trim on the driver and passenger side and I've had the blower motor itself out as well but I just can't seem to find that resistor. Am I missing something here or is it a completely different configuration from the RHD models? All this having been said, the squeaking is leading me to believe the motor itself will need to be replaced but I have to solve the mystery of the missing resistor.

It's also completely possible I'm being an idiot and have overlooked something very simple, so if that's the case I do apologize!

Thanks again and I appreciate any advice you can give me :)

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

To be honest I don't own an Altea but do own a 2015 Ibiza, basically I think a lot of the parts are shared between the SEAT model range including the other VAG vehicles.
When my fan resistor failed on my Ibiza I lost all fan speeds a part from speed 4 which still worked. I checked under the dash including under the glovebox area, and couldn't see it so I took out my glovebox, then removed slightly the foam membrane which gained me access to the resistor.

I've attached an image from SEAT Etka that shows all items within the heater fan system under dashboard, from an Altea, look at item's (1) = fan motor, and item (11) = fan resistor.

(1) Fan motor
Part number 1K1 819 015

(11) Fan resistor
Part number 1K0 959 263A

You've mentioned you can hear a squeaky noise when the fan motor is switched on, i.e spinning.
This could well be the fan motor bearings are wearing out.

Regarding the fan resistor it should be located close to where the fan motor is, as it needs good air flow to keep it cool otherwise the resistor will get far too hot and burn out prematurely.
The fan resistor will either be located at the bottom of the fan housing, or might be located slightly higher up behind glovebox like on my Ibiza, in which case it'll need to be removed i.e glovebox.

LHD Altea will have the fan motor on the right side = passenger side. The fan resistor I think will be lower down, or if slightly higher will be above fan motor in the fan housing shroud.
On a RHD Altea the interior fan motor system will be the mirror image to LHD and vise versa.

Also I've attached a YouTube video which hopefully will help, unless you've already seen it ?

Hope this helps
Si
