Just wondering what this engine is like in this car? Also what sort of mpg are people getting?
Is it even worth a look?

Thanks

Jamie

I've not driven one, but it should be 'good' for economy, and reasonable power, but with ~100bhp it'll be slow going

I would guess power wise it will be very much like the poverty 1.6 16v petrol engine that they fitted in the early ones. MPG wise it should be better though.

if you'd like to buy, not just try and discuss, I recommend 1.4tsi, practically same MPG but considerably faster.

It looks like I'm going to have to drive and see. I will update with what I thought.
But if anyone has any experiences please let me know?

Does anyone know of any other VAG forums? Because the golf and octavia have the same engine in pretty much the same car so wanted to see if I could find anything there? Like how well they go, economy and just generally how is the engine?

Thanks

Jamie

Does this help?

http://www.autocar.co.uk/CarReviews/FirstDrives/Volkswagen-Golf-1.2-TSI-105-S/250318/

"The 1.2 TSI unit is smooth, quiet and refined. Off the line it can feel underpowered, as it does near the top of the rev range, but progress is swift when peak torque kicks in between 1550rpm and 4100rpm. But this sprightly performance comes with a question mark over economy.

In its week with us, the Golf covered several hundred miles of motorway runs and city commutes, but not once did it get near VW’s claimed combined figure of 49.6mpg; mid-30s was nearer the mark.

<>

However, the real-world economy means it’s not for those in pursuit of as few fuel stops as possible on long-distance runs; they should try the 1.6 TDI. Instead, it’s more suited to daily driving around town.

The Drive

To begin, the car certainly doesn't feel like a 1.2-litre.

I reckon the real star of the package is the engine. Its 1.2-litre engine is smooth, lively and feels much quicker than the 10.6 seconds from 0-100km/h time suggests. There's easily enough power, and at cruising speeds you'll never find yourself struggling to keep up with traffic.
"

I would image the Leon would be pretty much the same as the Golf. Loads more reviews via Google. I just picked the first 2 I came across.

Right, so i had a test drive today and what can I say, what a great little engine. It really didn't seem to struggle even with three of us in the car and going up quite a steep hill in sixth. I don't think it could have accellerated up that hill to overtake but could stay at 70mph all day. (I think my fr would even struggle to accellerate up that hill)

So I have placed my order. Gone for one in Candy White with the media pack and the Bi-Xenon lights. :)

I had one as a courtesy car when mine was in for servicing.

In all honesty I was very surprised at how punchy it was for such a small engine, especially in a car the size of the Leon.

Performance isn't mind blowing but it certainly feels like a bigger engine than it is, reminded me just how fun a small engine can be :D

Pulled much better than the 1.2 Corsa I had previously :)
