Leon 19TDI 2004 CV Joint removal /outer boot replacement help please

Hi guys just doing my mot and have to replace the front nearside outer cv boot.

been reading this thread below which is great but as this is my 1st time playing around with cv joints and drive shafts can I get some more advice please?

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=138664&highlight=joint+removal

I've read on the thread above how the shaft should pop out with a tap of the hammer and from what I've read the shaft should drop with the cv joint but how do you get the boot over the cv joint or does that have to come off as well and if so how does it come off?

any extra advice and photos would be great please done lots of work on cars before just never this job

PS: if I win the lotto tomorrow night Ill let ya know as my baby will be going into a garage lol

You have to take the joint off the shaft. unless you get one of those stretchy boots with a cone, but they don't normally last long.

When you have the shaft off the car, cut the old boot off. and clean all the grease out. then with a soft mallet, hit the CV off the end of the shaft. It can take a hard hit. One good go is better than lots of light taps as it has to pass over a c-clip that's around the shaft.

Also, the hub nut can be very very tight. but a jack or ale stand under the socket to hold it level to the nut so as you can put loads of effort into undoing it.
when it's time to put the nut back on, do it up tight-ish, then put the wheel back on and lower the car to the ground, then do it as tight as you can get it with and 18" bar. turn the wheel 180 degrees and to it again as tight as you can with the 18" bar.

(Where are you from, maybe somebody local can help for a few beer tokens if you ask?)
