Im just a bit curious to what MPG people around here have been able to achieve with the Cupra on highway commutes?
Today i did a 150miles trip with the cruise set to about 75mph which returned about 34mpg (UK).
No i did not buy the Cupra because of the fuel economy, but i could average about 38mpg easily with the older Cupra 280 hatchback and a lead foot on highways.
For example my previous M140 Xdrive weighed the same as my current Cupra 300 4drive, but the BMW averaged easily 38-39mpg on longer journeys.

Is it the GPF that is killing the mpg on the Cupra or simply the "wide" tires or weight?

For a start, your Cupra is AWD and heavier than the 280, neither factors are conducive to better economy. 34ish is what I get, but we don't have intercity motorways.

Im aware of this, which is why i wrote that in the last sentence.
Im just a bit curious to the Cupra's way higher fuel consumption then other similar cars like the Golf GTI with the 7-speed gearbox.
The older Cupra sat at like 3000-3500rpm in high way speeds, which i thought would kill consumption.
But apparently it doesnt really make any diffrence.

I used to get 290/300 miles a tank on my old 280 DSG. On a long journey I could get 400. But my usually week is a lot of short journeys. Car defo uses a lot more fuel on warm up.

On the 300 4drive, from the factory I was getting 260 a tank. But on a longer journey I could probably still get close to 400 miles.

Then I did the traction mod and it dropped to 240 :O

Stage 1 remap kept it at 240.

Turned the traction mod off, and now it’s back up to around 260/280 a tank.

So either the car has loosened up or the stage 1 map has improved its mpg for the usual commute.

What is the "traction mod"?

OBDEleven mod that improves traction. Pretty sure it made the car effectively permanent 4WD.

Improved the feel of the car prior to the strut brace. Now the strut brace is on I thought I’d try it without the mod, and the strut brace has given it the feel the previous 280 had without the need for the traction mod.

Do you have a link for the mod and strut brace?

Do you have the cupra 4drive with gpf?
Which stage 1 map are you running?

I've done about 3,500 miles in mine. MPG seems quite good.

Overall average is just over 30 but most of my journeys are either my 10 mile commute or short runs around Milton Keynes, so not good for economy!

Best average over a tank has been 38 and it's easy to see high 30s on a motorway run of decent length.

I guess you have the new 7-speed and 4drive with GPF?

Are you using the stock 235/35-19 wheels?
What speed are you going when achieving that kind of mpg.

I dont care that much about MPG, just surprised that it consumes more than the more powerful and heavier M140 xdrive i had.

What speeds was that?
Where do you find "eco"-mode?
I only have comfort, sport, cupra and indvidual :p

M56/M60 kept it under 70mph.

It’s in the individual settings under engine, I think but it defaults to comfort so you have to select individual each journey. It goes into neutral when you take your foot off the accelerator.

Oh okay, will have to try and keep a lower speed then, see if it effects consumption much :)

Are you running stock wheels 235/35-19?
No cruise control i guess?

Yep, completely standard 7 speed with GPF and 4wd.

I tend to cruise at the speed limit (using cruise control) but get there quickly!

I use eco mode quite a lot as well, then drop into Sport or Cupra when wanting a sharper throttle response.

Thanks for the replies! I will try to fiddle around with the settings in individual mode a bit and see if i can make any changes.
Cant wait until i can replace the exhaust though to get more sound :D :drive1:
