Hello folks,

not long had the mk2 fr tdi and already having some niggly issues with it,

the cars is standard engine wise (not for long) with 73k on the clocks by the way,

basically my issue is-

when driving around mainly in 2nd gear it sometimes wont come on boost.........the revs will increase but i dont get no boost from the turbo to help me along,

if i get going in 2nd the turbo normally comes in just after 1.5k but as i said it sometimes doesn't come in at all,

if i let of the throttle to let the rev's drop then jump back on the throttle again the turbo will come in............ sometimes it works fine but then other times it wont work at all?

it does it pretty regular in 2nd but not so much in 3rd-4th-5th etc etc (although it will still sometimes do it)

so far ive done the following which hasn't helped-
changed the diesel filter
changed the airbox filter
checked for boost leaks (all good)
cleaned the air flow meter
had it on a friends diagnostics machine........said something about a grounding alarm fault (cant remember exactly)

there's no dah lights on the dash or anything so im kinda stumped?

anyone else had this issue? im thinking it could maybe be the boost pressure regulator???

any help would be greatly appreciated folks:D

If its doing a regen it won't boost till at least 2.5k, mine doesn't anyway.
Not sure if this is your problem though?

hmmm i dont think its doing a regen as it still does it when it idles normally (at 750 rpm's)

the other day it was idleing at 1000 rpm's...............which is when its trying to do a regen

i didn't realise it didn't boost till later on the rev range when its trying to do a regen mate so thanks for that,

i did have the dpf light on last week but after a good motorway drive on the motorway in 4th at 4,000 for a few miles it cleared the dpf light!

Mine also does the thing where it feels as though it's doing a regen at 750rpm and is real sluggish.
There's a few Leon's on here that do exactly the same but unfortunately, no one has found a fix yet?

hmmm your right mate,

i think a trip to ***** peformance for the DPF removal + stage 2 map is needed,

my friend reckons it's the boost pressure regulator the reason the boost is all over the place..............after getting it on his fault code reader no errors to do with this show up,

ive had it offthismorning and cleaned it all up and checked that none of the rubber hoses running of it are split................i doubt it will solve the issue but you never no!

after having x3 civic type r's over the last 5 yr's i never had no issues with those, even after supercharging one then another with a turbo kit on it..............had my totally standard leon fr tdi 2 wk's and its already doing my head in lol

Could it be the VNT turbo vanes occasionally sticking?

This might be useful:-

thanks for that link mate, could be really helpfull in the near future,

anyways folks this morning i took off the boost pressure regulator and gave it a clean etc using good old wd40,

i also checked all the rubber hoses coming off of it for any damage etc but couldn't find anything broken etc.

the boost pressure regulator its self has one hose running off of it from the top that runs into the airbox (probably a breather hose) and another 2 hoses running somewhere else,

after re-fitting it and going fo a drive the car is now perfect???? starts to pull from 1.5k revs now with no hesitations etc??

was going to order a new Bpr but no point now.............wonder how long it lasts before it goes again lol,

ive also fitted the egr gasket with the smaller hole in the middle that cost £2........fitted this last week though and this didn't cure the issue!:D

Hi

I'm a newbie looking for help and noticed your mention of the DPF removal

I'm in a late 2009 (i.e. MK2) Leon 2.0TDi FR 170 and a couple of weeks back the dash started lighting up with engine faults. Booked it in with SEAT dealer and in the few days in between the DPF lamp came on too (previously, flashing coil came on, then emmissions lamp). Handbook regen fix for this didn't work so something else for dealer to sort.

When it got in to the dealer they said the turbo actuator needed replacing as a diapragm was cracked. £675. This didn't solve it (still in limp mode) so they looked further and said the DPF was blocked with soot and offered to replace it for...£1500+! So I did a bit of digging and found out about DPF removal which was done yesterday in Sheffield for £450.

This was 1/2 successful in that the car's out of limp mode but the turbo doesn't seem to kick in at all. They looked in the garage and could see the actuator rod moving but no dice one the turbo. It drove home (to Preston) OK but just like and old diesel car (i.e. rubbish!) though on the plus side it did show I was showing 61 mpg!

I know NOTHING of these things so any pointers and advice would be most welcome

Cheers
