Leon or Altea

Hi all,

After seeing an Altea yesterday , and seeing off a Leon TFSi in the Focus on Sat , i am torn over what cat to get.

Should i still go for the Leon and Revo it, or be a bit more sensible and get the Altea?

Suggestions?

As we go to cornwall 2-3 times a year and Norfolk a fair bit, i think a boot would be preferable.

when at the autosport show looked at the boot on the new leon did not look as big as the mk1 can anyone tell me if it is smaller?

ahh, got knows - it's got a very different shaped boot gap seems more rounded.... I'd try it in one to prove it!

It seems very much deeper than the old leon, so must lose out in other dimensions

THe altea is a little bit more expensive but it is classed as a Multi Sport Vehicle, has a deeper boot and the whole car is a bit higher I beleive. SO if space if key the Altea, also the Altea seems to have some little touches like a armrest, bigger glove box, rear rooflamp etc.

Personally as mine is a company car I went for the Leon as it worked out a little cheaper and looks more sportier perhaps.

Mine will be of the company flavour too. Bigger sounds better to me, esp. with the weekend activities we have/need for transportation of bikes n the such.

Leon looks better, but it depends on what you need the car to do. I am really glad of the room in my Altea, which handles and goes pretty well. (mine's got a tuning box for a little more grunt than standard).
Leg room should be better than the focus whichever you choose.
If it's a company motor, you will probably want rear parking sensors if you opt for the Altea, as the rear window is set quite high. Not driven the Leon, so not sure if it suffers the same problem.
Get to the dealers and test drive both, taking buggies and any other bits with you to test out the capacity. I alays pack my kids in too just to check if it works for them.

Is backache an issue ?.

Altea all high seats front and back, New Leon for passengers your sitting low like other cars and that one gives you backache... gives me it anyhow. I think the driving position of the New Leon and the Altea in the driver's seat is very similar when I tried one but for all other passengers your back to normal saloon seating positions.

What the Telegraph said about the Golf Plus the sister car to the Altea to the Golf V, the sister car of the New Leon:

My two pennies worth on the subject. I love the comfort of the Altea in this respect both as a driver and passenger.

been reading the reviews now available on the altea FR. Things are not looking good. Autocar were not the biggest fan and 4car thought it was s**t basically. Does not bode well for the leon FR or cupra even.

Not a problem, as when ever i go looking for anything like this, my daughter is always in tow - she asks the most inaine questions but sometimes the point of view from a 9 yr old def helps, like "Dad, where am i going to put my drinks then" Ah - I didnt think of that.....

Oh yes, definatley, esp. with the amount of long journeys we do....

Its looking like the shift is doward the Altea, but I still want to test drive them both, and not a "20 minutes round the block - now sign here please sir" drive either. It has to be a weekend or preferably a week or two....

they wont do a test drive like that im afraid. the industry should change but at present you wont get more than a quickie round the block from any dealer unless the manufacturer is doing a promotion like vauxhall did a while back

I have managed to secure cars for 1-2 weeks perviously.

C-MAx TDCI-Ghia 1 week
Focus TDCI Zetec - 2 weeks
Civic Type R - 1 week
Citroen C8 - long weekend
BMW 118i - 1 week

It depends on the dealer/customer services dept the civic was via the dealer, the rest throughthe relevant customer services dept/HSBC Admin (as my car is a company car)
