I'm averaging 58.21mpg, based on real world calculations. Have kept track of my fill ups from day one. Majority of journeys are my 120 mile round commute up and then back down the m1 once or twice a week, have cc set at 62mph as I get no pleasure out of caining it on a motorway. I'll stick it sport and give it some beans if I hit a clear A road but chances are I get stuck behind a lorry with nowhere to get past

184 manual

Yeah I get similar to this over the last 32,000 miles, 184 manual

Haha looks like it but no, all to do with the right foot brother ;) . Diesel type economy and nearly 300 bhp, very very impressive

Do that journey to Glasgow from Edinburgh for my work meetings and always get at least 40, but think my best was just over 44, so you must be able to show more restraint than me, and that must be the record for a 280.

Not so good here....I drive a round trip of 15 miles to work each day and average just 40mpg. I don't give it the beans and this is an average over 6 months of new ownership. Regen every couple of hundred of miles which ain't great but hey ho...the joys of a modern Diesel engine.

Round trip of 15 miles? As in 7.5 miles each way? I wouldn't have thought it was getting fully warmed. Takes my 1.4tsi about 10 miles to get the oil to 90C at motorway speeds.

Correct...If I drive it like a nun on say a 20 mile motorway / A road commute I still can't get over 52 mpg. I base my calcs on the Roadtrip app which is anal but fantastic!

Managed 50.7 mpg on my commute into work, 21 miles. Also note 406 miles on the tank with 2 bars remaining. Brilliant for a car with so much power

that's got to be downhill, with the wind behind....... haha

i was going to buy a cupra but yes i bet you can get 40+ easy but the difference is the diesel will do that from start and once you put your foot down in the cupra it'll drop to 30 ish and in the diesel remain in the 40s and do 50+ for fun.... :) horses for courses etc..................

Here my experience. I had a VW Passat 140 TDI (Co car) & got 50 mpg averaging 25K per year, but sticking to 60 mph whilst on company business. Bought my own Ibiza 1.6CR TDI expecting to get somewhere near the quoted 65 mpg. WRONG! I was getting 53 mpg, same driving style as Passat but only 3mpg better. Lots of correspondence with SEAT, no faults with car.
Changed it for a 2011 Leon FR 170 DSG and got 48 mpg. So the 1.6 is shite compared to the 2.0.
Now I am retired I have changed to a Skoda Octavia Scout 185 DSG and get around 45 mpg.
I'm not too happy with the Scout so am hoping to change to a Mk 3 Leon FR 184 DSG. It should be interesting to see the economy on the new car.

I have a 184 FR manual. I do similar driving in terms of speed (albeit not as many miles per year) and my last 5 tanks have been 63.4mpg, 56mpg, 60mpg, 58mpg and 61mpg. The 55mpg tank was when i drove pretty briskly back home from Skegness- 100 mile trip on open roads at the dead of night doesn't help economy!

Figures calculated via app, not sing the trip (although the trip was reading 63.8mpg for the 63.4mpg tank so not far off!)

I normally find MPG threads as bout as interesting as watching paint dry. But here's my ten pence worth.
The current 290 and previous 280 , on the wife's commute ( 10 miles through Brum) with the occasional longer trip at weekends, averages 280-300 to a tank. On a recent run to Dorset, the 290 did 350, and I wasn't hanging about. Now, my last co car was a Passat 140 ( 2012) and would average 650 a tank ( I average a 1000 a week ,mainly m ways) when I was off work for a while, t'wife used Passat, miles per tank dropped to 350. Which, given different sizes of tank, meant the Passat was only 2-3 mpg better than the Leon. And I know which I'd sooner drive.
Now , after all that sensibility ,I'm off to do something stupid. :clown:

And people did not believe my 280 had got 44+ several times on my work trips from Edin to Glasgow and back, yours makes mine look average.
Truth be told, this was an attempt to achieve as much MPG as poss, through the average speed cams on the M74 at 54 mph on cruise control, no sitting around 60 thereafter into Glasgow. Also slipstreamed a van or 2 where I could. I think I could have got a bit more but not much. Back in the real world anything between 40 - 45 is the norm. 420 - 450 from a full tank is very achievable, drops to around 400 in the winter with cold start and conditions etc. Its near as makes no difference diesel economy from a high performance petrol. Diesel dead anyone?

Yeh, and diesels even fast ones don't drive like a Cupra out on the twistys, two cars in one I say, good mileage and comfort with the family or hard an fast when out by yourself.

After 3 years with my 184 manual, my experience with consumption figures is the following.

Disclaimer: Start/Stop is permanently deactivated - I have only been running the car in Sport Mode

- Urban commute gives me anything between 45 - 57 mpg (5 - 6.2 lt/100km)
- In long journeys, using mostly highways, I've seen figures as high as 73 mpg (3.9 lt/100km) when paying attention and not exceeding 120km/h (75mph). In normal speeds of about 90 - 95 (please don't shout, I live in Greece), I usually get anywhere between 50 - 63 mpg (4.5 - 5.7 lt/100km), depending on how normal these speeds really are
- The only way to seriously mess with the consumption and cause it to rise is to do a lot of very short trips. I know because my job is a 5 minutes drive to get to, and this really affects the overall figures. More frequent regens also...

Overall, it's a ridiculously economical car for the amount of oomph on tap.
