Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a strange knocking sound coming from the driver’s side of my 2014 Seat Leon 5F (1.6 TDI, 81kW manual). I’ll also post a video so you can hear it for yourselves.

This sound has been present since I bought the car used. At first, I ignored it as it didn’t seem to affect the driving experience. But now that the weather is warmer and I occasionally drive with the window down, it’s started to bother me and I decided to investigate further.

About 15 days ago, I went to a local mechanic. After checking the car, he said it should be a quick fix and recommended replacing the clutch kit including the release bearing. I bought brand new Sachs OEM parts, had them installed — but the sound is still there.

He then mentioned that there was some gearbox oil leakage, and when he removed the clutch, the clutch housing was oily, most likely due to a leaking gearbox input shaft seal, which he also replaced. I asked him about the flywheel condition, and he said it looked fine.

Now he suspects the issue could be worn or misaligned gears inside the gearbox, but also said there’s a chance that the new parts might be defective — which I personally doubt, since I went with Sachs parts.

Has anyone had a similar issue or might know what could be causing this knocking noise?

Do you think I should get a second opinion from another mechanic to confirm whether it's really a gearbox issue or something else entirely?

Thanks in advance, and please check out the video I’m attaching.
