leon steering wheel adjustment.

hi guys im new to the forum, having bought a leon fr 150 TDI last weekend in black magic with 55k on the clock! just a quick very basic question, how do i adjust the steering wheel reach, i have unlocked the lever on the steering column but it only allows the wheel to go up and down and not back and fourth? any ideas? cheers!

scratch that ive just pulled hard on it and it moved, and a load of crud just fell out! and now it seems to move freely, horay!!!

Id be somewhat skeptical about a car that ''something'' falls out the stearing columb
