Hello,

I am looking for somebody to tell me where the micro switch is located in my passenger door, the one that allows tthe car to know if the car door is open or close, I am having issus with the locking on the door and have been told to spray the microswitch with WD40.

Thanks in advance
Kev

they are in the lock itself and a pain to remove. To get to the lock you need to remove the inner door panels and window

I wouldn't use WD40 for electrics - get yourself a can of ACF50 - much better stuff.

Thanks, sounds daft but is this something that can be bought out of halford or a motorpoint?

Rather than just trying to find ACF 50, look for 'electrical contact cleaner'. At least then you'll find something. Obviously get ACF 50 if at all possible, you can't beat a good recommendation.

WD40 leaves a film that attracts muck, it's pretty much useless both as a cleaner and a lube. Something that evaporates on contact would be best, and hopefully it'll take the muck with it.

I have a link from an Audi A4 forum which is a great how-to on opening the door lock and what you will expect in there. I have it bookmarked for when I have a go at my passenger door! If I forget to post it tonight from my home PC, give me a nudge and I'll get it up here. It won't be much use for the door itself, but the pictures of an opened lock are excellent.

If it is the microswitch that`s causing your issues, I`d bet the plunger that operates it has worn away to the point where it`s not doing anything. It`s only made of plastic and rubs against a metal cam on the back of the lock every time you open or close the door.
It should`nt get very gunked up as it has a tiny rubber boot on it.

You need to remove the plastic door card (trim) and the metal inner, then you can remove the lock module - then the microswitch.

The cam wears the plunger down at an angle so to fix mine I just took the plunger out and rotated it 180... Should give it a couple more years!
