Can anyone recommend some good quality locking bolts for the Leon MK2, as I'm not sure about sizes etc. Also in silver as well if possible. :)

*EDIT*
Ok new question (didn't want to start a new thread). Is it ok to use the radius shape locking bolts that come with the Leon on after market alloys that have a tapered shape hole? The guy I bought the alloys said it would be fine, but I want a second opinion.

So is it?

OK does anyone else here use Mcgard locking bolts? I have read lots of posts on other forums of the keys rounding off, and the bolt heads shearing off.

So can anyone suggest any decent alternative to the Mcgard ones?

btw its M14x1.5 Hex=17 for the Leon, you should get 'radius' if you have OEM alloys and 'taper' if you have after market alloys.

So does nobody here use locking bolts?

I got locking nuts on my Leon when I bought the accessory wheels from the dealer on delivery of the car. Got nuts, but not sure whatmake there are.

When I had to get spacers on the front wheels, new locking bolts were fitted for me and these were McGard. They seem ok.

McGard are quite good as long as you don't let any garages use an air wrench on them.
If you use a <12" ratchet and don't do them up super tight then their fine. Maybe some copper slip too.

The downside with McGard is that it's as easy to get them off without the key as it is with the key! I removed 2 last week after the key got damaged. Very easy.

get yourself an impact socket that doesnt quite fit over the bolt, then whack it with a hammer until it does 'fit', then unscrew.
they claim their bolts are hardened but they will deform to fit the socket.
not very subtle, and likely to attract attention, so not good if anyones trying to rob them, however it does work, maybe 1 minute per bolt/nut.

McGard were off my list before I read that, but now they are definitely off lol

Yep, thats the one. Although I wasn't going to mention it on a public forum :p
The Halfords 19mm sockets that hold the corners of the hut head rather than the flats are the best.
It is unlikely that you'll ever get the bolt out of the socket again though!

The profile on the locking bolt's sleeve needs to match the wheel's mounting hole for 'full contact'.

If it didn't matter, why would there be different profiles (radius or taper) offered by the bolt manufacturer?

i've got a silly question-i had assumed it came with lockin nuts as standard, is that not right then?

McGaurd do high security wheel nuts that over come this problem they are only £5 more and the out side of the bolt rotates to stop this being possible.

The profile thing has to be the same very important

Yes it does. But I have a new set of Alloys (non Seat) which have the taper bolt hole shape not the radius shape as the OEM Seat alloys.

I'm still confused as to whether it is OK to use radius bolts in taper shape alloys. As 1 person here has said no, but 2 people elsewhere have said its fine. Could do with some more confirmation folks

If you fit a radius bolt to a tapper it will only make contact at one piont, resulting in damaged wheel nut seats or worse wheel to come lose.

If they match i.e. radius to radius or taper to taper you have contact of 5-6 mm and no chance of damageing the wheels.

Anyone know where to get Audi/VW/Seat locking bolts with taper shape? As I have caps that fit these bolts.
