As the title really. I may at a later date buy a genuine Ross-tech cable but i fancy having a play with a cheap one first.

My current car is a 2001 Toledo TDI and my initial question is i plan to use my Eee pc 701 netbook which doesnt have an optical drive, i know that i can download a shareware version of the vagcom software although from looking at various ebay leads it seems that i would need to load a driver for the cable which comes on a cd any suggestions?

In addition has anyone used such a low powered pc with vagcom?

Sorry if these questions seem basic although i am a newby,be gentle.

The driver is downloadable too, have a search for FTDI drivers. Some of the Ebay auctions actually have the links on their pages.

My personal laptop is lower specced than yours and it works perfectly fine.

I got an ebay lead(£9.90) last week bright blue one and it came with a CD, Can you email the cd contents to your laptop? from a diff computer.

very easy to setup once u know how, I got confused with com ports ! in device manager I kept looking under USB not ports drrrr, it works anyway and will do for now.
