Hey all,

Hoping for a bit of advice. My FR tdi has developed an issue and wondering what the most likely cause could be.

I have an intermittent loss of power and when it occurs there are plumes of black smoke out of the exhaust. Tends to happen when I put my foot down and the revs just go nowhere or creep very slowly. If I lift off then press the accelerator again it seems to be fine. First noticed a few weeks ago and the frequency of occurences is increasing.

I have check boost pipes and cannot see a problem - the intercooler pipes at the top of the engine to the EGR valve were replaced about 5k ago. I would also have thought an issue with a pipe would be more constant?

I don't have vcds but I do have a code reader and that shows no fault codes. I have had a search on forum for similar problems - I am leaning towards thinking the EGR valve being busted or needing cleaning. Would that seem like the most likely problem to the forum and the best place to start?

You can remove the boost pipe into the EGR and look inside to see if it's caked or stuck. VCDS would show whether it's functioning correctly.

I'd maybe question the maf too, as it's getting worse?

As said vagcom is your best friend on this one
