I'd get a lawyer onto it for that amount of cash.
They fitted a faulty part and it wrecked the engine. All work should surely carry a warranty even if fitted 1 day before the warranty runs out.

Thats outrageous! I'd strongly suggest to them that they are liable for all damage as the diagnosis of the problem was a part that they fitted not more than a few months ago!
Assuming the part was a genuine seat approved / VAG turbo then they are liable for all costs.
If need be get a lawyer on your side. The small outlay of his services (£100?) wil pay off in the end.
This is exactly right, there was either a fault with the turbo supplied or the work that was done in fitting it.
Either way someone is responsible. You may have trouble getting one party or another to accept liability but thats what the lawyer is for.
End result = you are not liable for the damages!

As with everyone else, SEAT should pay the whole damn amount. End of, sounds like it may be time to get serious with them.

Bad news my friend, however. Speak to consumer direct and explain what has happened, even though the vehicle is out of warrenty you can still get SEAT to cover this. There is a part in law that states a product must be fit for purpose and function for an appropriate amount of time for said product.
A car which is three years old and only covered 35k miles with full service as per recommendations is not appropriate amount of time for it to fail. Consumer direct will more than likely pass you to your local office and they can advise / take up your case with the dealer / SEAT.
Another avenue is if you have purchaed the car through a finance agreement which lists the car, you could reject the car to them due to the failure as it is actually theres until you finish paying. They don't want a dud car so will also take up the fight.
And finally you can try your insurance company for an engine failure, I have in the past sucked a vast amount of water in to the engine and bent three of the conrods and this was covered and the engine replaced.

Do not pay a penny, the new turbo has a "parts warranty" that lasts 1 year.
I bought a Cupra black grill for the front of my mk2, I fitted it myself and after washing the car about a month later I spotted a defect on the finish of the black surround. I phoned up my dealer and told them, they asked to see it, I took it to them to see, they agreed that there was a defect and replaced it under the "parts warranty"
The same should happen to your turbo, especially as you didn't fit it yourself.
Go and see the Citizens Advice Bureau mate, there is no way I would pay a penny. the turbo or the work of fitting it is not fit for purpose
