Was driving along a dual carriageway when all of a sudden all power to the accelerator just vanished. Managed to pull up onto a side road where i then realised a dense white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes. immediately turned the car engine off. Now the the car wont even start.

Any ideas to what this could be.The car has recently been asking for the engine coolant to be topped up more than usual which i found very strange considering the car is only driven locally.

Please help, need some advice

Um - advice.

Check coolant header tank and oil filler cap. Oil in the coolant should be obvious, and is a bad sign, likely head gasket failure. "Mayonnaise" under the oil cap, on the dipstick or any signs of liquid water in the oil are similarly bad signs.

A compression test will tell you just how bad it might be - head failure results in a loss of compression.
