hi recently i have been experiencing a loud noise from the front of my car at first i thought was a wheel bearing but i recently had the front right changed and doesn't sound like a drone usually associated with a bearing its more like a loud road noise so i thought it was a Tyre but today i changed all my alloys to a set of 17s with brand new 205 40 17 tyres and it seems to have gotten worse. it doesn't change when dipping the clutch or braking so doubt its that.

has anyone got any ideas of things i can check or with the mk4 can anyone hear a similar sound ?

thanks in advance dave.

Gently roll from left to right on level bump free road while free wheeling or cruising. If the noise get greater as the load comes onto that wheel it is wheel bearings. I had a bent bearing on left front and a noisy bearing on right front at 110k/10 yrs.

Most likely wheel bearing - and check the rear wheels too, they do fail eventually. Otherwise, CV joints?

The noise seems to be constant with no change when i load up either side i had replaced the drivers side 6months ago a genuine part due to wheel nut threads being damaged i have also noticed when looking at the front wheels the tracking seems to have went out on the right side surely not a failed genuine bearing :/

There is a slight noise from one of the rears that i noticed when replacing the splash shields but i am going to get that changed asap this noise seems to be coming from the front . Would a cv joint make a constant noise ?

If you think the tracking out i would go get it checked and they could look over the rest for you.

you can get a surprising amount of extra tyre noise just from the tracking being out.
