Recently, as its got colder in the mornings, my 2.0 8v as developed this loud rattle when accelerating (normal accel not fast) in forward gears. If you put your foot on the clutch or stop acclerating it goes completely. Also when it has warmed up to normal temp(about 5 min) it goes completely, you can accel as hard as you like and no rattle. Also interestingly there is no rattle at all in reverse when cold.

Have thought about usual heat shield/exhaust mount ratttle problems but the foot on clutch issue seems to discount them and suggest a drive issue. Thrust bearing has been suggested but i thought that was to do with changing gear not in gear, am i wrong? Any other suggestions on things to check would be good, if not it is to garage after xmas.....if it lasts that long :)

best to get it to a garage to get looked at asap if it is the gearbox it could end up costing you a new one ,and it's probably not safe to drive the way it is.

If the thrust bearing is shot it can cause noise under load, not just when changing gear.
