Loud roaring noise when accelerating hard?

Just bought a new Ibiza today, after my last one was written off by the 3rd party.

The new one is a 2003 1.2 s. It drives normally, however only when putting my foot down reasonably far, does it start making a roaring noise, coming from the rear of the engine, sounds a bit like it has a hole in the exhaust..

The car's recently had an MOT but is due for a service. Any ideas on what this could be?

I think it sounds quite good, however am worried it could be a serious fault.

Thanks

It's just the powerful roar of the 1.2 engine!

But seriously, could be a number of things, have you tried getting someone else to rev it and sticking your head under there to have a listen? Much easier to identify noises then. I'd be looking at the intake pipes and exhaust if you think it sounds exhausty though.

It's happening only at high revs.. Seems to be coming from the drivers side under the bonnet.

I'm clueless when it comes to the mechanics side of things as I'm quite new to this only being 18.

Hi :)

From the description provided, it sounds like an air intake problem.

Make sure the air box is correctly fitted to the throttle body. Just give it a good push and it will click into place.

If this fails, make sure that there is an filter inside the air box as it woild also cause a loud roaring noise.

Thanks, I'll give it a go.

If there isn't an air filter is this damaging to my car, or is it okay for me to drive about for a while without one? As I'm low on funds at the moment. Same question with to if the air box isn't fitted properly.

Worst case scenario without an air filter is that a lump of something gets sucked into the intake, through the throttle body and writes off your engine. More likely is it will get some leaves and crap through it that will burn up and hopefully not cause any damage. IF the air box isn't fitted properly it will cost you nothing but time to fix it. If there is no air filter, it will only cost you a tenner or so for a new one from allparts or similar.

Going to get it checked this weekend or next week by a friend as I don't know where to look, quite liking the sounds it makes though

I'll update you on any progress
