I'm picking up a 52 reg LC on Saturday. It only has 16000 miles on the clock.

I was wondering whether to get the cambelt changed as its 5 years are almost up.
Or does the very low mileage say I should be OK for a bit?

Do it mate! The belt has been subject to the elements for 5 years! I'd do it just for peace of mind along with all the fluids.....coolant, oil, brake, etc

yeah the cam belts have a life of 60,000 miles or 5 years, whichever comes first. so you have got to the 5 year life span so it should be done.

do it m8, would also advise to get them to check if the water pump has the plastic impellor. its a known fault for the water pump to go so if you get it done at the same time will save you having the job done again wen the pump goes.

I've been a bit naughty and am getting mine done this weekend (6.5 years old).

Better to be safe than sorry (especially as I've got an aftermarket warranty and it would not pay out otherwise)

my dealer told me the interval has been revised down to sooner of 40k or 4 years. I challenged them on this as I didn't (and still don't TBH) believe them.

My LC had done 24k by 4 years so I got it done just for peace of mind. I figured that I won't have it for 8 years anyway so I'm s well getting the benefit for it now and offsetting any risk of failure.

PS shop around at good local garages. The dealer quoted me £320 and I got it done for about £150 in the end.

My Lcr Has Done 174500 Never Changed The Belt Special Alloy Multi Strand Belt Fitted, Ordered When Got Car From New . Should Last 250k. Seat Dont Tell Folk Though A Bit Sneaky Info.

I was told 60k by one dealer and 120k by another so got on to seat uk they said

"After investigating your query with SEAT UK's Technical Department, I can advise that the timing belt on your vehicle should be checked at 60,000 miles and every 20,000 thereafter. The timing belt can be changed at the dealer's discretion but replaced at a maximum of 110,000 miles. SEAT UK recommends the timing belt is replaced every four years on lower mileage vehicles. I hope this information is of help to you"

An independent says too much focus is given to cambelts, as long as it is in good condition and not contaminated by oil etc should be good for atleats 100k the 60k myth is an arse covering money making exercise, how many motorists that service their cars regularly have had a cambelt go as a proportion of total cars on the road - very few me thinks.

if you are the unlucky one it could go at any time i know one person only who ever had a problem and that was on an audi A4 it broke at 16k so a 60k change would not have helped.

tbh, why take the risk. Get it done every 60k. Say it costs you 300quid, its far far cheaper than the bill you'll get if it does snap!

16000 miles in 5 years  What has the been doing all that time?

If you go for the full job, belt, water pump, tentioners, alternator belt etc, I think the parts come to more than £150.

Does anyone know the part numbers for the above items? I have looked through the forum and my local service man cannot find the part number for the belt?
Any help would be appreciated!

I drive a LCR 2002, it has also been remapped by Jabba!
