can anyone help me with this? ive noticed that sometiems at low revs, when pulling off normally on the fist start of the day that i get a bit of a whining noise, almost exagerated buzzing. anyone know what it could be?

I think it's the heat shield for the catalyst. The heat shield is made of thin aluminium and is clipped to the under side of the car.

I had this on my old MK4 and it was fixed by my local dealer by tapping the clips with a mallet to make them tighter.

mine makes a noise that sounds like that on a first start when cold more than anything and mine is my turbo and has made the same noise for 30000 miles it might be your fins in the turbo just spolling up they all make the noise some point in there age

that turbo explanation sounds suspicious to me mate!
it is more a buzzing than anything. ill have a look at the heatsheild nath. thanks bud

he said whining noise not buzzing thats why i said turbo!

Mate, a turbo making a whining noise is a faulty one. It either has a failed bearing or the turbine blades are out of ballance or the turbine blades are touching the turbo housing.

A turbo making a whining noise will not normally last 30k miles.

As said maybe your down pipe is making funny noises
