Hey all

I'm totally a n00b with wheels, so before I get flamed I have done a few searches and have come across some useful info. However, still a little confused.

My MY03 leon has been dropped by approximately 35mm all round, on highsport coilovers, and standard facelift 17" alloys.

I have fallen in love with the Audi RS6 alloys (same as Ruddmeister had) and am really tempted to get some in the 18" variety.

Now I know the stud diameter needs to be 5 x 100.
The offset needs to be ET35? (I assume this is 35mm?)
The rim width needs to be 7.5 or 8. (inches?)

Please correct me if I'm wrong above. I've seen some 8J alloys - is that what i need? The alloys seem to be around the £300+ mark on ebay, then tyres to add to that. I'd sell my set of 5 MY03 alloys, hopefully for the £300-400 mark with the gsd3's i have on them.

I've read that anything bigger than that means the wheels stick out and is illegal, so ideally I want 7.5 or 8...

Finally, the real question here - as I've lowered my car, when fitting the new wheels will i need to adjust the ride height? I've heard from others that with bigger wheels the car cannot be lowered as far (which I can kind of understand) but I don't know if my drop would be ok.

Any help would be appreciated.

fantastic news. Thanks for that mate :)

The main reason i ask is because everyone who see's my car thinks its slammed - but from measurements it worked out to be from 670mm to 635mm ish...

Very tempted now - approx £300 for the alloys and then around £400 for tyres i recon..

it shouldnt matter from goin from 17" to 18" wheels wen ur cars lowered wat profile tyre do u have now and wat profile tyre will u b puttin on the 18's

all im getting when i search for OE TT RS4 alloys is OE Replica Audi RS4 Wheels, so do you have a link for the originals and not replicas??

whatever wheels you go for, it's worth considering how much heavier than your OE rims they are. A significant increase in your unsprung weight won't do you any favours.

thanks for the advice paul - definately worth thinking about.

I don't like the RS4 alloys now - went off them when i saw some pics of leons on RS6's - especially like Rudd's just gonna photoshop a pic or 2 and see if it'll look ok on a platinum car :)

At the mo i've got GSD3's on my 17's - 225/45/17 tyres.

I think its 225/40/18 on the RS6's.....?

Mine is lowered about the same and I fitted the 18x8 compomotive mo alloys with 225x40x18 goodyears , so far no trouble at all (wish I had done it sooner !)
Go for it !!!
neil

should be fine an plus u r using lower profile tyres o it actually evens out th general size ur 17's with 45's will nearly if not be the same as 18's with 40's on mate ive always found anyway

have a look for yourself http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html , standard diameter is 634.3 mm new wheels are 637.2 mm,

whan your speedo reads 60 you will actually be travelling at 60.3, which is incorrect because speedos are out anyway,

yes you will be fine on that choice in tyre size, and if you want to be real hardcore lol can drop the coil another 50mm atleast lol

5x100 mate, you must remember I had them on my Leon Cupra?

Snakebite - check the various VW and Audi forums, they usually go for about 500 ish for a mint set with tyres.

Pete

had a flyer today offering Golf R32 wheels (genuine) for about £95 ea+vat

http://www.mswuk.com/ - site still work in progress but contacts there

that tyre size calc link is awesome! Cheers matey!!!

has anyone got any close up shots of the RS6 alloys - GENUINE ones?

I've seen some on ebay but they look different and I suspect they are "replicas"....

Hyper silver seems to be the colour of choice...
