Hi guys did a quick search but couldnt find the right information.

I have a 1.6 leon with 18's and looking to lower it around 30mm. So far its a choice between Eibachs 30-25mm, Koni 35-35mm and H&R 35-35mm. I am thinking about using the standard shocks as i am on abit of a budget, will these be ok to use with standard shocks and pass an MOT ok? I have read that if you lower too much the springs can pop out of the cup but how far can you lower without that happening?

thanks guys

You will be fine for MOT.

A lot of people recommend upgrading the shocks but this can be done when you can afford it, or just save up more and get coilies.

;)

As long as the shocks don't bottom out and the spring can't be moved when the car is jacked, which won't happen from 30-40mm springs, up you'll be fine.

As said above, it is always best to get a matched set of springs and shocks as standard shocks will be under more strain when used with shorter springs and not perform as well.

You'll still be fine doing it but in the long run the shocks will go sooner then what they would of with standard springs.

i had eibach springs on my leon 1.4s. flew through 2 mots no questions asked.

ah thanks guys! so 35mm should be fine? i thought 35mm would of been enough of a difference for the springs to be loose when the car was jacked up?

back in the day my springs claimed to be 30mm drop. i ran standard shocks for 30k with them with no problems.

hi damian which springs would be the best to go for? im not sure if eibachs will look lowered enough with only 20-30mm but they seem the most sensible for ride comfort etc. If you can get me a price for any recommended springs i would be very greatful. Btw i have a 2004 mk1 1.6 leon Thanks!
