So after my GTI was bumped into I was in the fortunate position of having a payout of more than I bought it for, and still sold the car onto F2-Stu

So I thought, what the hell - no more SEAT's this time - get something fun. And since I've never owned a RWD car, I figured that'd be fun..

The shortlist was drawn up, and the MX5/Eunos/Miata won

I picked up my little bargain for just £1200 on Autotrader, with two previous UK owners since it was imported 7yrs ago.

I've had it a month now, and apart from putting air in the tyres to 26psi all I've done is drive it.

This weekend we took it from Northampton, to Portsmouth, to Exeter & back - it's returned 36mpg, which is great for a car with such disturbed aerodynamics!

Sometimes I've had the roof up, but mostly that's because it can get pretty tiring on the motorway for a couple of hours.

Amusingly mines got an LSD, and boy don't I know it in the wet - 2nd gear, 30mph off a roundabout just induces the sweetest oversteer - just hangs out & pulls straight - seriously good fun.

For an 18yr old car a few things are 'expected' - if you don't check the seals & it rains, you're going to have a wet arse, if the sidelights are on and you turn the car off there's no bing bong warning to tell you the battery is going to go flat.

otherwise, it's a good laugh - which is what I wanted (even though the gay/hairdresser comments are still there!)

I'll use the excuse that I was on Holiday for a fortnight (in another car) and then it rained :)

Supercharger kit seems easier to fit :)
This car's a keeper, so before I can do that - I need to make the rest work perfectly

not really got any plans apart from keeping it nice.

it's got loads of grip, so can't justify wider / larger wheels. The ride is stiff, but compliant - so no new suspension. The brakes suit the power output.

The radio is a bit naff, so I'll get a new one of them maybe - probably a hardtop for the winter & maybe an exhaust / decat just because it'll still pass the MOT with sky high emissions :D

 lol j/k. good little car and nice to learn to drive rwd.

not doubting your driving skills but make a concious effort to go to an 'allignment meet' with some other mx-5 owners.

basically it is a course set up to teach people exactly how and when they can lay the power down without ending in to a barrier or facing in to on comming traffic.

my dad learned this in his S2000, was laying the power down just after one of the chichister roundabouts and the car spun. fortunatly he did not hit anything but was slightly embarressed that he was facing on comming traffic.

rwd can be very very fun to drive then suddenly the rear end snaps out.

looking good mate ;)

thought I recognised the car park from the first pic, and the second one confirmed it as being the 'top' car park at Haytor on the edge of Dartmoor :D

good job you didn't go to that same car park at night.... you would have bumped into lots of people 'walking their dogs'

if it's an original Clarion stereo i have a cd changer in the attic for one of them

cracking cars though - used to do em new back in 94 - great fun and reliable as hell

only thing i can think of or remember

1 - hyd tappets are very small so usually start rattling a little when oil has lost its balls but regular decent oil sorts that no problems

2 - Ignition leads are common for failing and causing misfires and can be £100 odd a set

apart from that bugger all goes wrong with them mind

Nice motor :)

We all know they look a bit gay, but they're seriously good fun to drive! Which engine is it?

I can do coilovers for it too, would look good low with them wheels painted black!

Yeah, luckily we were up there way too early for that... plus it was bloody cold (hence the roof was up)

Yeah but he's only needing a turbo as a high powered hairdrier... :runaway:

arf arf - supercharger looks a lot easier fit
