major key problem help.

i went to start my car tonight an got a light on the bottom right of dash its a picture of a car and a key with this flashing i can not start my car it starts then cuts out straight away i need some major help any one plz ...

Is it a new key?

If so recode it,
Try new battery dont know if the key needs a battery for the car to read the code?

Someone did post how to code a key not so long ago on here!

old key looked through owner book an the light if for the imobiliser tryed to re- program key loads of times but i been having problems for few weeks now..

have you got a spare key? any joy with that? must be a right pain if you cant start it

yeah other key is std key no buttons but a few months ago i had a new plastic bit behind the barrel been ok for two months then all of a suddon the radio would not turn off when i take key out and then i could not unlock the car with the buttons only key and now this an its a pain ..

would the ECU bring up any codes in VAG-COM ?

To be honest with something like this I'd drop it to a dealership, it's more hassle than it's worth, what if you go somewhere then it won't start..at least you know they will sort it even if it costs a few bob!

yeah mate its down auto tech who done the work 3 months ago cause think it might be a faulty part they fitted but it has only just failed so i got no car for few days bummer lol .....
