Mk1 dashboard airbag light

The airbag light on the dash appeared a couple of weeks ago but hasn't gone off since. Just read the paper this morning and says you can now fail the mot with this light on along with handbrake, main beam, abs lights. Any ideas what the cause of the airbag light staying on is and if its a common problem? Presume the best bet would be to get it plugged in for a diagnostic check..

Yup best bet would be to get the code read, otherwise you'll just waste time and money guessing.

Once airbag light comes on it will not reset on ignition cycling, requires being plugged in to clear the fault

Any common reasons for why it comes on?

Possibly connection to one of the airbags, one of the connectors under the seats maybe

Yeah I can confirm, once it comes on the only way for it to disappear is to clear the fault codes, clear it and if it comes back then there might be a sensor or connection, issue, if it doesn't come back on your sorted.
