So, I got the leon a couple of years ago and the air con has never worked, it had the common clutch plate issue where the nut sticks out of the housing. (Noticeable from the top of the engine)
I looked into replacing it but £300 plus fitting and re gassing etc just seemed too much for a ‘luxury’ when I can just put the windows down.
However I read a thread on a Vw forum from a guy who just bought the clutch plate and fixed the issue, so I found the right clutch plate for mine and attempted to fit it myself. However access from underneath is tricky and I couldn’t manage it. Anyways I put it in for a timing belt so asked if he could fit that too.
Took him half an hour to take the drivers wheel and lining off, change the clutch plate and back on.
As the air con is connected to the belt it’s always been moving so none of the internals seized up and voila. Perfect working air con for less than £20.
Much like the one above, so if anyone has the same issue it’s well worth doing.
