I'm looking at getting a remap for my 1.9TDi Sport PD130 and was hoping for a little advice.

I've noticed that different comapanies will quote you with different power and torque specs.

A Revo remap for instance will up the bhp to 170 and the torque to 280 where as Celtic Tuning take the bhp up to 187 and the torque to 291.

How realistic are these figures and will Celtic Tuning provide you with that little extra power, 17bhp is significantly higher?

Also i'm not necessarily interested in squeezing the most power out of the remap, i'd prefer it to not be overly aggresive and was wondering how much torque the standard clutch can handle.

Basically don't want to be spending anything extra for the time being as a result of the remap.

A friend has a Mk4 Golf PD130 w/ a Revo remap and hasn't had to upgrade his cluth and another friend had a Mk5 Golf PD105 w/ a more aggresive remap and hasn't had to change his cluth either.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

170bhp and 280lbft is a realistic figure

Both comments here have covered the points i was gonna say, concentrate more on the torque as it gets the car movin!! Standard clutch will take about 300lbs of torque before it starts to slip

you may wish to consider a custom remap, this will take into account the condition of your clutch and limit the torque to accommodate it. Mine is and the power curve is very smooth with no aggressive spikes and its achieved good figures still running the standard clutch.

just another option for you.

I'm running a P-Torque stage 1 with 174bhp and 280-290lbft torque - I find it a very smooth and progressive map that just keeps pulling well up the rev range.

Based on that - I'd agree witht he above. Either way you won't be disappointed with a remap!

another poitn is to make sure the remap comes with a before and after print out that way you can be sure of the smooth power curve and you have correct figures too, but whoever you choose its sure to put a big smile on your face to drive after.:D

Agree with the above comments but to add, it depends how you drive as to how your clutch will cope. They will cope with 300lbs/ft but not for very long if the clutch is abused.

I'm sure you'll enjoy, I am!

IIRC, its a custom code remap that has done the quickest 1/4mile time in a PD130 Ibiza, so I would say so

A 1/4 mile time is hardly a measure of how good a map is......

Wow that seems to be a bargain, I'm considering either buying an FR and remapping or just remapping my PD100. Or if a decent cupra turns up near me then possibly that lol

Too many decisions!

What is then? People usually remap a car to make it quicker, RR's weren't designed to give power figures, so the next option is straight line tests
