There's load of vacuum pipes on TDIs.

Any idea which one you might be looking for (ie what it connects to, or controls) ?

Well the brake vacuum pump is situated on the end of the engine.
If you're stood looking at the engine with the bonnet up, it's on the right hand end at the top of the engine, you'd have to remove the engine cover (if they still fit them!) to see it.

Ha..

Pretty sure the dump valve that "was" in my old Ibiza TDi was connected to one of the pipes coming off that black box.

ring Dervdoctor and see if they can help ya.

i have pics hosted og this ( helped a fella fit one of these)

il hunt it down , its on RHS of engine below the main engine plug

EDIT

i cant find it and its getting dark for a pic , so nah nah nah , its easy found tho , remove the engine cover , and probably the intake to the airbox . and the hose is on the low RHS of the engine going to the bulkhead , thats the one you want , make sure you tighten everything well up , because if that pipes splits you lose the brake servo = bad day
