Hello all,

Up until recently I've never looked to buy a Seat. However, a move to Europe was on the horizon and I needed to find a left hand drive car....saw a stunning condition '08 Mk5 - built in the first month of the new shape production, at a bargain price. What's more, the small engine meant for an economical 50mpg and on top of that, the car was ALREADY LPG CONVERTED - at Factory!

Good stuff...so why I'm here:

Firstly- My consumption - driving economically - is at 38mpg - this doesnt seem right for a little 1.2 - anyone else with some real world mpg figures? -The car sounds pretty normal-possibly O2 sensor?.

Secondly - The car doesn't have a trip computer!?!? In this day and age- seriously SEAT/VW what are you thinking?!
Because of its spec it also had no automatic wipers, no automatic lights, no cruise etc.

The question here is:
What can realistically be retrofitted? Ideal situation is that it is possible to retrofit
Trip Computer
Cruise

With those two, I'd be some way towards content with the little motor. Anyone with any ideas or experience?

Really appreciate any feedback on this,

Unfortunately, like the majority of manufacturers, SEAT fuel consumption figures are usually a work of fiction. I have a 1.2TSi and, using real consumption figures collected since it was new, I get around 39mpg on short town trips (book reckons 40.4), rising to about 42mpg on longer trips (book reckons 53.3 . . . yeh, right!).

Naturally those figures drop a little when you use the air con in the summer. From what I remember, running on LPG returns worse fuel consumption figures coz the calorific value of LPG is lower than that of petrol, although the cost of LPG more than compensates for that of course. According to my 2011 brochure, the fuel consumption for the S 1.2 AC is 39.8mpg for urban, extra urban is 64.2 and combined is 52.3mpg, so your figure of 38mpg sounds about right for commuting.

As for the extras, I know when its raining and I know when its dark, so personally I can't see the need for that level of automation ;-) I do use the trip computer for fuel consumption caculations, but its just as easy to use the mileometer and a bit of maths; I can't say that I would miss it if I didn't have one.

On the other hand, I do find that cruise control can even be useful around town and in my experience it does improve fuel consumption - so I would be tempted to retro-fit that if it wasn't too difficult. Maybe I'm just heavy-footed, but if I switch to cruise control, the instananeous fuel consumption figures improve quite markedly. The only other thing which occurs to me is whether it is possible to control the LPG system with cruise control - it might be worth checking.

Double check with the dealers. Our discovery 2 land rover. The cruise control stuff was all wired in but just need the buttons and that. Quick job to fit :)

Thanks so far

Hello all,

Thanks for getting back to me,

To be honest, it's nice to know what people can reliably say are retrofits for the car, which would include auto lights and auto wipers etc. once again, if its just parts and coding, it's nice and easy to sort out.

I've asked one dealer about cruise and he said it would cost so much to retrofit it's not worth it unless I've got very deep pockets!! But he also sounded like he wasn't quite sure at all.

Personally, I'm pretty handy with the odd retrofit, just no idea what I can do with this Seat Ibiza.
Cruise is the number one thing I'd like to retrofit - has anyone done this on the Mk5?

Cruise should still work on LPG as well as petrol, and yes LPG will result in a lower MPG, which isnt an issue.

Was hoping someone could confirm whether it's a new stalk and some coding to get cruise / trip computer?
Also - retorfitting fog lights? -I don't have any of those either!

And yes, I could have just bought a fully loaded car - but that point doesnt interest me. I like to work with what I've got.

you can activate your trip computer with Vag-Com.I have done it to my 1.4 85Hp Reference İbiza. But if you activate it without buying the wiper arm that have the buttons for trip computer, you can only see your range on the trip computer
