have you considered using a second car battery?
you could swap the OEM one with x2 smaller batteries i.e. braille
you may even save some weight to help you go faster ;)

Hi All

Sorry for resurecting the thread, but I've nearly finished....but.....i'm really struggling with getting access from the car cab into the engine bay to run 2 wires (siren control and head light flasher switch)!!! Otherwise, all is being run from the fuse box in the car via an "add circuit" attachment, so fixes my original problem!

I hadn't really considered there being such a problem with running wires between both areas. I've looked through the DIY Guides on the forum but can't really find anything.

Any further help would be very much appreciated!!!

Thanks guys!

I'll have a look tomorrow and see where we passed my 1/0 AWG power wire through.

Having just seen this thread though, it amazes me that noone suggested putting a fusebox with proper fuse ratings between the battery and your new feeds. A small heat-up or spark could make the whole car go on fire you know.

thanks for the reply. any discription or photo would be a great help.

I have got inline fuses for all of the appliances, the work will also be signed off by one of our work mechanics - they just wont fit it!! More NHS cuts!

Sorry for the delay, you've probably found your way through it already but I'll post a couple of photos of my very dirty car for future reference.

In my (LHD) Leon, the only convenient grommet we could find in order to pass my 1/0 gauge wire was behind a very small void amongst the battery and the engine bay fuse box. This came out on the other side above the clutch pedal, but in your car it'll be behind and below the glovebox.

You will see the techflexed wire going straight between those two:

And a relatively useless photo up close, sorry it was too cramped to get it right:

If you need the high resolution version of the above pics, send me a pm with your email. :)

Hope that helps

Hi All,

Well, after a couple of months worth of red tape and NHS delays, I'm happy to show my Seat Leon I'm using for NHS responding work as a Paramedic.

Thanks for all of the help and advice.

In the end, I used a fuse piggy-back system to allow my lights to be used when the keys are taken out. I decided to run the wires via the door seal instead of drilling through as I'm due to swap the car in May....

Cheers again, safe driving.....there are other less drastic ways of seeing the car!!

Well...........i was planning to add some photos and video, but it wont allow me!! Any mods want to help me out?!

Be interesting to know how long they last on the battery when the the key is out/engine off... I know the radio cuts out automatically when the battery is getting low from it being on, wonder if there's something similar you can do, or whether it's all in the ECU?

Wow I've seen actual ambulances with less flashing lights than that! Good work!
