Just had the car motd, failed on a brake pad being less than 1.5mm, now never heard of that before but thanks for the warning, new ferrodo pads for my brembos, go to fit them and the least that's on a pad is 4mm I'm raging!

What's my options?

Surely you could have seen this without buying more and taking them out? You can see the pads through the wheels

I'd present the car back at the test station with the original pads back in
Ask to see the manager and explain the situation.

Tell them you'll be more than happy to involve the ministry if needs be.
See what he has to say

Annoyingly ive changed them now, but with the least being 4mm on the old ones, I've got a spare set for emergencies! Which is good after a year! Looking on the bright side! Lol

I need to have it retested so ill be back up there with the old pads and the invoice for the new ones! I would have faffed about with leaving the old ones but I need the car motd by Monday as i need it to go on holiday lol

Have you ever tried to see the inside pad on 305mm 4 pot brembos with 16inch wheels while its on the floor??

its nigh on impossible in the air with the wheel on! Don't know how they measured it!

Someone weighted the wheel in the wrong place and it hit the caliper! They're chunky things!

And on the ordering before looking, it had just been inspected by an Mot station, they shouldn't be wrong! And I'm in a rush for my holiday so didn't have time to check it before ordering

Its all down the testers opinion at that time

If he thought it was less he'll fail it, end of the day its his licence he will lose and maybe his job

But....
Id defo kick off if it was mine just because youve brought and fitted new pads for no reason lol

Guess its still who ya know not what ya know

It's the same place I've always used and never had bother before and used to Mot some cheap cars as most peoples first few tend to be!

Yeh I'm definitely going to be mentioning it. The pads aren't cheap! And its something that should have been an advisory any way not a fail as its was a pass on brake efficiency and balance!
