Hi all.

Changing headunits shortly and I'd like to get some advice on a new motorised touch-screen, single-DIN with usual outputs/inputs.

Needs to be DVD and Mp3 compatible with good audio reproduction quality. Will be the backbone of a full install I'm taking on.

Thanks guys. Things have changed since my last full build :S 2-3 years ago!

Hi, im know expert by a long way, but ive got the Kenwood KVT-729DVD h/u and ive got to say its the best thing ive bought in a long time. ive also recently bought the sat nav add-on and bluetooth interface for the handsfree. the unit is so easy to use and sound is very good.
Hope thats of some help!

How much you looking to spend as ultimately what you get is down to your budget but as an example

Upto £500 will buy you...

ALPINE IVA-D105R

Kenwood KVT-729DVD

Pioneer AVH-P5900DVD

Obviously there are loads more for more pennies but £500 will get you a pretty good unit anyway

If it was my money then I'd be going for the Pioneer.

I currently have a Pioneer H/U & am really impressed with the SQ from it & cant see why the DVD H/U's would be any different.

Although the Alpine is meant to be very good as well.

I dont understand why you would buy one of these DVD HUs. Why don't you speand £300-£400 on a top of the range single DIN normal unit with fantastic sound quality abilities and high voltage pre-outs, basically the works for a quality install and save £100-200 for other bits for your install?
Just don't see the point as they are harder to use when driving and when would you ever watch a DVD while driving??
Just my opinion!

I would say thats a valid point. If i were a connoisseur of sound reproduction and want to be able to listen to my music from the other side of the street without any sound distortion i would probably have bought something else. For me personally a good sound output does me just fine and i can turn it up loud enough without it distorting where my insensitive ears would pick it up. On a more serious note, i would say i do a lot of driving every other week doing between 600 - 800 miles, my HU gives me SAT NAV (and i was one of those ppl that always said 'cant you read a map' - sorry but i was wrong wouldnt want to live without it now), complete control of my ipod (in my opinion a better interface than the ipod's own interface), radio and bluetooth handsfree all controlled from one screen. As for the DVD player, not what i bought it for, i think its been used once stuck in a 15 mile tailback on the M6 (grrrrrrr).
And most of all its a great little gadget, lol, looks great in my opinion.

Hi topOcat, I'm looking at buying this years model of that unit; I've already got the bluetooth module and a 40gb hdd mounted in car with current kenwood radio, and will be getting the sat nav module included with the HU. How are you finding the unit after a couple of months of having it? Comments would be appreciated:) cheers.

Alright Danny, units superb m8 no problems yet. the garmin satnav is suberb as you can create your own custom POI's and upload them using the satnav units built in SD card reader. also the unit fits great, the only issue i have is the flaceplate surround doesnt seem to click into place, bit of bluetac tho and problem sorted
