This is a state-of-the art automatic gearbox known as a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). Rather than offering a finite number of gear ratios, the electronically controlled CVT can seamlessly and infinitely vary the gear ratio from the lowest to the highest, automatically matching the ideal ratio to the vehicle speed and driver demand.
The broad ratio spread makes the powertrain highly efficient, cutting cars’ fuel consumption and emission levels.
The gearbox also offers a manual mode, which allows the driver to use either the paddles behind the steering wheel or the gearlever to choose from seven pre-programmed gear ratios. Selecting manual gives the driver more control over the car’s gearbox, and offers a more engaging and dynamic driving experience when desired.
