Hi all

So I recently changed part-exchanged my MK1 Leon FR TDi 150 for a Leon MK2 FR TDi 170, photo below. I feel the newer one has to be better and is in many ways, but there are a few buts…

Road noise, I really notice this more in the new one, however it has Rainsport 3’s on the front, with a Conti and Khumo on the back so could have an impact? Whereas on my old one I had Eagle F1 Assy 2’s all round and didn’t seem to notice it. Although I must say both cars even when parked always sound/ed like a back door was open!

The power, or feel of power, is one that really seems to be niggling me. Im sure, and on paper, the new one is quicker, but I can’t help thinking it just doesn’t seem to feel it. I guess I had been driving the other one for nearly three years so knew it in every way. Joining the dual carriage way on the way to work is often tricky. In the 150 I knew I could just boot it and would get out into virtually any space needed as the power seemed instant, whereas this week I felt there is almost a second or so of lag before it goes?

Im sure the top of the door card must be higher on the MK2? as I used to rest my arm on it driving on the MK1 and it just felt right, hmmm!

Believe it or not the MK1 fuel computer on my journey to and from work would always be in the high 40’s but mostly 50’s driving 70mph ish, getting up to a best ever 73.7mpg once doing 60ish! Overall it was very easy to get it into the 60’s going at a steady rate. In the new car it doesn’t seem to reset at the start of each journey  and so far doing about 70ish it seems to be mid 40’s which is a bit of a disappointment, that is as along as these fuel computers are all accurate anyway!

Maybe I am just finding it hard to adjust as the old one was the most easy car to drive I have ever had, but then again I only got this one Saturday, lol

I would be interested to hear from anyone else who may have also experienced this.

Thanks for reading

CB

The noise could be down to the mix of tyres, but check the wear on the inner edges, its a common fault and means 4 wheel alignment needs doing.
Power wise, there is a difference between the delivery of the PD engine (which I think was in your Mk1) and the newer CR. The CR is more linear in its delivery, whereas the PD had a more noticeable power band , if you get my drift.

I went from a Mk1 PD 150 Cupra to a Mk2 PD170 FR and I think the road noise is worse on the Mk2. The power delivery is slightly different from both cars too and the turbo kicks in later on the Mk2. Power wise I could feel the difference but only slightly with it being on 20bhp more.

The MK2 is more refined and a much nicer place to sit than the awful Mk1 interior. MPG wise the MK2 seems to be on a par.

That's good to hear about the MPG, I used to get about 180 miles or take on £20.00 and on the first £20.00 in this one it was 170 exactly with a fair bit of testing the power of the new toy!

The turbo coming in later probably explains it, a remap may be an option on that as the lower it kicks in easier the cars feel to drive.

Last time I filled up I've so far getting 570 mile and have 79 miles left according to the computer, that's last Friday going to Blackpool and back from the north east, and backward and forward to work this week which isn't motor way, and we had our toe down there and back to Blackpool to cut the journey time

I'm sure my DIS shows the MPG from the last journey for a few seconds, then resets. Could be thinking of the A4 though.
I hated the road noise in my Mk2. I took out the boot liner and put in a wooden floor and stuck the old carpet to it. Seems much better now.

It would be good for me if the mpg computer did reset each time, unless there is a way to change this?

Yes its showing 2 in top right hand corner in middle of dash display. Deffo no buttons on wiper stalk, ive been messing around with it but cant seem to get it to change, and recall how to do it from stalk on my previous Golf, Bora and MK1 Leon, any thoughts?

So after a little drive tonight, its definaltey not as easy or should I say effortless as my MK1 150 FR :/ which is a shame, however it does indeed pull well when you wind it up. Would having it re-mapped make the turbo kick in any lower down? I think I used to like not having to wind my MK1 up to make it go ya see!

When you have the small 2 on the screen, iirc you just give a short press on the ok button on wheel and it toggles between 1 & 2.
