Normal drive home up the M6 toll last night, got about 5 mins from home sitting at traffic lights and the engine started to splutter... got across the junction and it just died. Felt like it had run out of fuel. Turns over ok but wont start up. AA came out and did the usual tests but ended up getting towed home and just dropped it off at the local Seat/VW specialist.
Error codes showing through vagcom - exhaust pressure sensor 1 implausible signal, and more importantly Power Supply for ECU Electrical Malfunction??
AA bloke did all his electrical tests and everything was getting power, no fuses blown, reckoned it could be something to do with fuel injection.
Not good and not pleased, only had the car since December and warranty ran out end of March :(

2.0 TDi FR. 07 reg. 54000 miles, and i've done 10000 of those pain-free and problem-free until now.
No warning lights, nothing, no symptons, no previous juddering or spluttering, quarter of tank of fuel, plenty of oil, 25 mile drive to work and 25 back again every day, mostly motorway and dual carriageway driving, no short journeys...

it'll take the VAG specialist an age to find so i'll tell you the most probable cause of the fault and unfortunatly the part to fix it is not cheap.

One of your injectors is faulty and spiking the ecu so it will no allow the car to run, take the cam cover off and unplug each injector individually, when you disconnect the faulty one the car should then run (with it still disconnected and on 3 cylinders). After this replace it earase the fault and you should be fine.

I'm more than confident in it being an injector. I've seen probably 10 with the same symptoms but never a tdi fr with a faulty lift pump, I'm also a slave to seat like techie :)

Mine died too

This is a copy of my post from 11/05/10. Sounds like exactly the same symptoms, but hope it's not as bad.

'First post onto the forum and it's unfortunately down to a bad experience

Recently my beloved 56 plate Leon (of which I've had from new) suddenly cut out and came to a halt. Managed to get it to my supplying dealer to have it checked out. Initial thoughts were fuel pump related but after 2 and a half days of testing and diagnostics, was found to be a faulty injector #4. Was told that the other 3 injectors wouldn't work due to this hence no fuel. Also the wiring loom, which physically runs in the engine head needed to be replaced. Total bill - £960!!! Asked them to do the cambelt at the same time as it was about due. Finally got the car back after a week off the road.

Was told by the dealer that I was extremely unlucky for this to happen as the parts are quite sparse on the VAG/Seat parts availability as they don't generally fail. The dealer took pity on me and knocked about £150 off the bill after they'd done the cambelt replacement as well. (fully recommend RM Fisher of Galgate - nr Lancaster)

Hope none of you guys have to go through this!!!!'

Well, injector number 2 has failed and as above, it needs a new wiring loom as well. Apparrently loads of these have failed on this engine??
Its going to cost 800 odd quid for a random unlucky fail 2 months after warranty end. What a crock of ****.
Going to try the usual approach of letters to Seat backed up with service book (car was serviced every 9000 miles as it was a company car previously), see if they will offer some sort of contribution/compensation.

Yep, log it with Seat C.S on 0500 222 222

Your only just out of warranty on age rather than mileage, so hopefully they'll go 50/50 with you.

Interesting. my Mrs's Altea FR has a recurring fault on injector 1. I've noticed the power dropping off a few times now, just doesn't feel as quick as it was when she bought it last year and it's pretty poor on fuel for a TDI, averages 38mpg, I expected it to do more like 45mpg.

Was going to try a new injector but they're a fortune! How come people are replacing the loom too, what goes wrong with them? with it being an intermittenet fault I'm wondering if a wire has snapped or something?

Loom replaced I think because Seat recommend it, and apparrently the connectors on the injector go brittle and break... and yeah, expensive... 540 quid inc vat!

The exact same thing happened an injector on my skoda octavia vrs tdi which was my last car. I had to pay 1100 euro for a new one. Then they told me there was a strong chance it could happen to the rest of the injectors but couldn't say for certain. Within one month the car started misfiring which I assume was another injector so I just traded it in wasn't worth the hassle or money.
Did you have yours remapped or anything?

Did you get any sort of compensation from SEAT?

My Fuel injector #1 has gone and I've been quoted the same as you in terms of price and what needs doing.

My local dealer are carrying out the repairs as I write this, RM Fishers @ Galgate, Lancaster.

You might get some help from Seat, but for me, they didnt want to know. Problem was the car was not mine from new, I was 2nd owner, and it had been serviced once at Seat and three times at an independent.
I wrote a long letter of complaint over a week ago and have heard nothing back since then.

Happening on Mercedes quite a lot too, not sure what their unit costs are like!!

Seems to be a % problem with the parts, which may be manufactured in Malaysia. and hto hold fine production tolerance that may be impossible to achieve with 100% of production. - which is a warranty/manufacturing error therefore it should NOT be charged to the customer ?~@!
