My new Ibiza Cupra Tdi Introduction...

Well, I've been a member on here for a few years down to my Leon K1 ownership (which TBH the wife drives more than me!) but I have only been part of the Ibiza fold for about 3 weeks now, so thought I'd better introduce myself in the Ibiza Mk 4 section...

I had a Skoda Fabia VRs TDi a couple of years ago and it was a great car, albeit not much of a looker, so I sold it for a Nissan 350z which looked nice, but was a **** car, and nothing but trouble!

Anyway, after a brief encounter with a Smart Brabus Roadster Coupe (really good fun, but hard work to live with), I have decided to try a 'sexier' version of the Fabia Vrs, in the form of a 57 plate Ibiza Cupra Tdi.

I bought it from a member on here, but technically he only really joined up to get some advice on selling it.

It's in very good nick with FSH, the only downsides are the cam belt need doing (just clicked over 65k miles) and most of the alloys had some signs of kerbing. This was factored into the price though and I happily payed £5500 for it.

I drove it all the way from Watford to Helensburgh (near Glasgow) and it didn't miss a beat. It kind of feels in standard form like a Fabia VRs with a stage 1 remap, which is what I would have expected.

Anyway, its totally standard apart from a nice Alpine head unit. This weekend however, I have been busy getting it to a perfect mechanical standard, and tidying a few little bits up - i.e. a few little exterior and lighting mods. I'm no boy racer, but I do like a few tasteful features to tidy things up.

So far then, looking after the mechanicals, I have done...

Engine Flushed,
Oil + Filter changed,
Air filter, Fuel filter and Pollen Filter changed,
MAF removed and cleaned,
EGR cleaned,
Coolant drained and changed,
Timing belt, tensioners + water pump changed,
Dose of Reddex in the fuel tank,
All fluids topped up.

And cosmetically, I have done the following...

55w 6000k HID lights fitted (really impressed with these)
LED number plate lights fitted (best £5 you can spend IMO)
LCR Front splitter fitted
Replacement driver side fog lamp fitted (lens was smashed) and both fog lamp bulbs changed to 100w ultra white bulbs.
Honeycomb upper grills fitted

So anyway, it's now feeling really smooth, and more importantly I know its all been serviced to a really high standard and its in good health ready for a remap when I'm ready, hopefully some time in the new year.

Overall, I really like this car. I think after a few weeks you either bond with a car or you don't. I have a good feeling about this one though. We have had our Leon Cupra for 3 years now and it has been the most reliable car I have ever owned, even tuned to 320+ bhp for most of our ownership. It's still great to drive and feels solid, so hopefully the Ibiza will be similar.

Future plans include, in no particular order...

Some uprated speakers, possibly a compact active sub. (I'm a bit disappointed with the standard audio TBH)
Darkside intercooler (as mine has a tiny leak), and possibly some uprated hard boost pipes.
Stage 1 remap, and possibly a uprated clutch and flywheel to go with it, if it slips LOL!
Wheel refurb in a darker colour, but not black.
Some white LED sidelights that actually fit as I've ordered 2 different sets now and neither do!

Anyway, enough of my drunken xmas rambling on, here's some pics...

My old fabia Vrs which inspired me to get a Ibiza Cupra TDi...

The 350Z I replaced it with - Not a good car at all IMO, but did look nice!

That was replaced with this...

And this is our other SEAT...

So my Ibiza started out like this when I bought it...

And now, I don't have any decent pics because I haven't had a decent car cleaning day since I have owned it, however you get the gist of the bits I've done. Better pics to follow when the weather permits...

Rear white LED's -

honeycomb upper grills and LCR splitter -

Whiter than white 6k hids -

Plenty more to come, I promise! :D

Looks great mate :)

Wot you doing this side of the Cupra fence LOL!

Yeah, its alright. I can see me keeping this one for the foreseeable future as is cheap torquey fun and has plenty of potential.

The K1 ain't going anywhere for a while yet, so that'll satisfy my high-revving noisy induction, turbo fun LOL!

Looks nice I like your the only other 57 plate like mine on hear it the last of the ibiza Cupra tdi it looks nice in black a stage one mapp is defo worth it and hopefully you won't need to fit a clucth I haven't has I on mine and mine is at 57k and been mapped since 22k.

Looming forward to seeing what u end up doin I it.

I agree with the comment about standerd sound system becaue I relised how crap it actually was when I upgraded my head unit to an alpine so am looking at changeing front and rear speakers very soon.

Welcome to the ibiza side it's much better than the Leon side hahahahah

Yeah, i did the fabias headlights with lamin-x. I think it looks good. I have got some spare to do the ibiza but dont know if i will as it takes away the power of the hids i have just put it, and i need them because its permently dark here this time of year!
I might do them in the summer though when its permanently light!

Finally got round to giving it a bit of a clean today. Didn't have a chance to clay or wax, but I did touch up a few stonechips and dressed the wheels.

Im quite impressed what spending £60 on the front end can do with the splitter, honeycomb grilles and a bit of black wrap for the chrome main grille ring.

The uprated hids/fog bulbs make it look a bit more modern too, just waiting on some cree LED sidelights that actually fit as the ones I have tried so far are either too fat or too long!

One thing I'll say, is im having real trouble cleaning up my front calipers. The red paint is really stained with black crap and nothing I have in my arsenal of cleaning products is capable of removing in, and that includes heavy duty brake dust remover and a scrubbing brush.

Any ideas what to try, ir is it a case of repainting?

Have you tried iron x? That will get rid of any baked on dust, then it's a matter of re painting, see my RR, i used hammerite smooth red and white for the letters.

Awesome! What bulbs did you get for the number plate, really want to do mine but so confused over which bulbs I need!

36 mm festoon bulbs. - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301015208130?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Fitting takes 5 mins.

Yeah, I use WOLF De-Ironiser (basically the same stuff). Still dosent get the crap off though. Might try repainting, I have some smooth red hammerite in the garage somewhere.

Well the remap was supposed to get done this week but my local Revo dealer has had to unexpectedly be out of area but is going to fit me in this coming Saturday.

I gave it a quick clean yesterday, and this morning I fitted some rear caliper springs. The calipers aren't sticking (yet) but I thought I would fit them anyway as a preventative measure. Also makes the handbrake feel more 'positive'. Can't grumble for a fiver and five mins of time!

Before...

After...

Also fitted an old private reg I had on retention, last seen when I owned a Focus RS!

OK, so it's not as fast as the Focus, but hey, the plates are just gathering dust sitting in the garage!

Next thing then is the remap at the weekend. Yay! :)
