My New MY19 Cupra - Tyre Pressures

Hi All,

I have been a month long lurker while deciding on what car to buy. Ended up buying an Urban Silver Cupra 290 on a lease and to be honest I'm delighted I did! Car is in silver so doesn't stand out and I am far too old to look like 'boy racer' anyway.
My final choices were Alfa Guila or Kia Stinger, both of which were far too much extra money really. Plus the Stinger has 6k service intervals...
On Wednesday night I did a quick trip and averaged 15mpg (gulp!). Today following traffic to work well within speed limits I averaged 43MPG over 45 miles which really amazed me.

Anyway, my question is this.
Reading this forum several times people have mentioned the tyre pressure being too high straight out of the factory. My car is according to the sticker should be 39 front, 35 back with minimal load, 42 front and back with full passenger/load.
I didn't trust the airline I used as it said I had 44psi front and back, so I guessed it must be closer to 42psi and duly deflated fronts to 41 and rear to 37.
The ride now seems different, in a bad way. The ride seems more 'crashy' if that makes sense.
What pressures are you running your tyres at? I have continental 5P tyres.
I am seriously thinking about just putting some more air in, but don't want to wear my tyres too quickly,

Thanks!

I just keep at the recommended PSI indicated in the fuel cap. Haven’t had any problems with handling or ride quality if that’s what they recommend then that’s what I use. Unless of course you’re taking it to a track then it’s s different story.

By the way I’d trust the airline as I’ve seen all sorts of dealer pressures on my tyres - usually all 4 different.

Thanks for the replies. I will go to another garage today and see what their guage says. Its another good excuse to go out for a drive. Just driving is something I haven't done in years. I have started going the long way home now, and I quite like the sound akutator(sp). Makes me feel 18 again.

You should be checking the pressures with cold tyres

I run mine at what the sticker says on the door pillar no issues. It's tried and tested by seat before they decide to put it on the cars.

I went to a different garage today, parked up for an hour to do some shopping and checked my tyres cold (as per earlier post). I think the original garage I used must have had a knackered gauge as my fronts were 39 / 33 and rears 32 / 36. Now done again as per the sticker 39/35 and all is fine again. Im surprised it felt so different tbh. Oddly the tyre pressure warning didn't even notice ( I forgot to reset it!).
