Lidl are selling 'nano solution kits' for about a fiver. They look to be the same principle as RainX etc... i.e. supposedly fewer bug splatters (or easier to remove the splats) and less need for wipers when driving quickly.

Has anyone used these treatments and are they any good? A fiver seems cheap enough to try but wanted to get opinions first.

I use rainX and find it does help the water bead off the windscreen easier, doesn't do much for the bug splatters tho. For a fiver it would be worth a bash in my opinion.

i've tried some of their car stuff in an emergency and it's pretty good stuff actually, seen those kits but don't know how effective it is although judging by the other bits i'd probably give it a bash! :)

Right, thanks guys! Well after reading your posts andf some more about Gtechniq G1 ClearVision at detailing world, it seems that it's the daddy of all windscreen coatings and actually lasts long enough to bother with. :)

Trouble is, I can't work out how to order any online. Gtechniq's site doesn't seem to have an online store. Any clues where I can buy it (preferably online) please?

I ordered some Gtechniq G1 Nano Glass Coat yesterday and just finished reading the thread discussing it over on Detailing World. Looking forward to giving my new FR its first proper wash, wax and sparkle this weekend (he says, looking out the window at the big grey rain clouds...). ;)

Can't remember and don't have an email as I ordered over the phone, but I think it might have been £10.30 inc p&p, for a bottle of the actual stuff, another bottle of 'residue remover' used to remove excess during buffing and an applicator/instructions. Didn't seem too expensive given the Lidl kit was just over £5.

According to Gtechniq, this size kit is enough to do one or two cars. I think the instructions say to give the front screen two coats and the other windows (if desired) one coat. In fact, I found a link to the instructions in case you're interested:

http://www.gtechniq.com/uplerds/msds n info/g1 Application instructions.pdf

They'll sell bigger sizes at better value, I'm sure, if you have a lot of cars to do. ;)

Well after some confusion over shipping addresses, my G1 and G2 'residue remover' kit arrived the other day. I hope to apply it tomorrow, assuming I get enough time to wash the car and clean the glass properly. Will report the results...

just in case it doesn't mention this in the application instructions, I would recommend claying, or using a glass polish on the windows before applying to make sure that the glass is as clean as possible.

Be interested to hear how it goes, very happy with how it is working on the Leon.

Thanks for the tip. I was planning to wash the car as usual but pay special attention to the glass with one of those mesh based bug pad things... then afterwards use a standard vinegar/citrus based window cleaner to give it a final clean.

I have some Autoglym Glass Polish somewhere, but Rob (@ Gtechniq) recommended I avoid using that before application as it coats the glass itself, which would interfere with the G1's ability to bond properly.

I'll let you know how I get on... :)
